Patent number: 12006169Abstract: A conveyor system comprising a conveyor and a conveyor weighing apparatus. The conveyor weighing apparatus has a load determination device for determining the load exerted the conveyor on a conveyor support. The conveyor weighing apparatus may have measurement devices for measuring the angle and speed of the conveyor. The load determination device determines the load exerted by the at least section of conveyor in both laden and unladen states, and the results are combined with the speed and angle measurements, and with known system constants, to calculate the weight of material being conveyed.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2021Date of Patent: June 11, 2024Assignee: TEREX GB LIMITEDInventors: Richard Byrne, Lee Johnston, Barry McMenamin, David Gibson

Patent number: 10803843Abstract: A computer user interface (UI) is capable of generating a sound when a predetermined event occurs. The sound generated when the predetermined event occurs may possess at least some characteristics of a predominant natural language used by a user and/or a location of a computer implementing the UI. This enables the user to quickly assimilate the sound generated when the predetermined event occurs. Because the user quickly assimilates the sound generated when the predetermined event occurs, the user is able to rapidly respond to the predetermined event, at times using the computer UI, which reduces undesirable memory use, processor use and/or battery drain associated with a computing device that implements the computer UI.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2018Date of Patent: October 13, 2020Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Andrea Hsieh-Lin Chang, Matthew Lee Johnston, Joseph George Kelly

Patent number: 10751726Abstract: A material processing device has a rotor coupled to a rotatable shaft, and a rotor control system. The rotor control system comprises a rotor control mechanism with a first engagement member that is engagable with a second engagement member coupled to the shaft. The rotor control mechanism is operable into and out of an engaged state in which the first and second engagement members are engaged with one another. In the engaged state, the rotor control mechanism is operable in a locking mode in which the first engagement member is fixed in position to prevent rotation of the shaft, or in a rotation mode in which the first engagement member is movable to rotate the shaft. The material processing device may be a crusher, a shredder or a milling machine.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2016Date of Patent: August 25, 2020Assignee: Terex GB LimitedInventors: Lee Johnston, Richard Byrne

Publication number: 20190386995Abstract: Systems and methods govern participation in and enforce a limit on the number of nodes that can participate in a cryptocurrency or other distributed computing network. Unlike other approaches, systems and methods herein do not require excessive use of resources. Admission of a node to a network is governed by the consensus of pre-existing nodes using a process or physical characteristic of the candidate node to determine its eligibility. One instantiation uses physical location as the unique physical characteristic, with a distance constraint to force geographic separation between nodes. Another uses signal response time over the network as a proxy for distance, relying on the fact that network nodes cannot respond to an interrogation before it is received. Combined with an appropriate time constraint, this enables network space to be used as an analog for geographic space, despite the fact that network transmission speeds and paths are variable.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 12, 2019Publication date: December 19, 2019Inventors: Paul Christian Chafe, Jeffrey Lee Johnston

Patent number: 10027939Abstract: An apparatus and method is presented for receiving and displaying user messages associated with multimedia content. Specifically, the present invention is directed to controlling the operation of a television recording/playback system to permit a user to input a message, associate that message with a selected television program, and display the associated message when the selected television program is accessed by another user (see FIG. 1). The apparatus of the present invention is directed to a system for managing multimedia content including devices for storing television programs and associating with those programs user-generated messages for display to other system users. In this way, the present invention provides content management tools that promote sharing by all users, ease the process of establishing a consensus for managing limited resources, and encourage monitoring by the administrator.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2006Date of Patent: July 17, 2018Assignee: THOMSON Licensing DTVInventors: Scott Allan Kendall, Gavin Lee Johnston
