  • Patent number: 8099262
Abstract: Methods and systems for improving the accuracy of predicting resistance of a disease to a drug are described. More specifically, methods for assessing the impact of pre-existing variations in drug susceptibility, whether naturally occurring or selected by previous drug exposure, on treatment response in order to establish clinically relevant cut-off values for phenotypic or genotypic resistance tests are described.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 1, 2005
Date of Patent: January 17, 2012
    Assignee: Virco BVBA
Inventors: Lee Terry Bacheler, Bart Reginald Alfons Winters
  • Patent number: 8036861
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and means for determining the replication rate of a viral population. More specifically, the invention provides methods and means for determining the replication rate of a viral population by performing a linear regression on signal data generated by cells infected with dilutions of the viral population. The methods are useful for monitoring the progression of diseases associated with viruses, identifying effective drug regimens for the treatment of viral infections, and identifying and determining the biological effectiveness of potential therapeutic compounds.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 13, 2006
Date of Patent: October 11, 2011
    Assignee: Tibotec Pharmaceuticals

  • Publication number: 20050015326
Abstract: Methods and systems for real estate investment comparable to investment in a company on the stock market. Assets from a common sector are included in an investment fund. The fund assets constitute a representative sample of assets of the common sector. The financial performance of the fund assets as a whole mirrors that of assets of the common sector. An asset may be added or transferred so the fund assets continue to constitute a representative sample of the common sector of assets, and so the value of a share (or like interest) in the fund is unaffected. A trading platform may be provided for buying/selling fund shares. A continually updated web-based reporting system on fund assets may include information on the sale of fund shares, and information on the representative sample of fund assets as a whole such as historical information, in-place value, and forward-looking value to facilitate trading.

  • Publication number: 20030007844
Abstract: A threaded nut which resists loosening under vibration and shock forces which comprises a nut body which transmits load to the mating threads of the nut and bolt through two distinct load paths from two separate load seating faces on the nut for transmitting forces to the workpiece with one seating face being disposed radially outwardly of the other with the load path transmitting load to different regions of the threads.

  • Patent number: 6269962
Abstract: The container of this invention has an increased strength in compression. When filled and with a closure the containers can withstand greater compressive force without a resulting deflection. This permits the use of a lighter weight and less costly shipper carton. The containers have a substantially rigid base, and except for rigidifying recesses, a substantially planar base. Further, the sidewalls of the container are substantially devoid of recesses and projections, and particularly, in the region of the base of the container. In addition, the sidewalls have a slight outward taper from an area at an upper part of the sidewall to the base of the container.

  • Patent number: 5726012
Abstract: A rapid, high capacity method using chaotropic agents for evaluating nucleic acids is described. Samples containing the target nucleic acid can be evaluated in a nucleic acid based sandwich hybridization assay which is performed, in part, in a chaotropic solution which is removed prior to detecting and/or quantitating the product. This assay can be used to detect and/or quantitate nucleic acid levels. It can also be used as an infectivity assay and/or as an assay to evaluate anti-infectious agent activity of compounds.
