  • Patent number: 4492668
Abstract: Apparatus and method for preventing the rotation of one or more elongated rods used in nuclear fuel assemblies include an end plug secured to one longitudinal end of such an elongated rod and having an out-of-cavity, non-round structure affixed thereto and configured to mate with a complementary shaped structure in a lower tie plate of a nuclear fuel assembly in such a manner as to prevent the rotation of the rod about its longitudinal axis. In one embodiment, the end plug includes a pair of flats formed on a portion of the end plug and configured to abut against a pair of flats formed on the outer surface of a cylindrical boss or sleeve of the lower tie plate, thereby to prevent the rotation of the rod. In another embodiment, four grooves, disposed 90.degree. apart about the periphery of an end plug of a rod form a spline. The grooves are configured to receive four, radially inwardly protruding, key members disposed 90.degree.

  • Patent number: 4361208
Abstract: An elevator car having a car frame and a composite platform. The composite platform has a first section defined by a beam member of the car frame, and a second section which is pivotally fastened to the car frame. The second section is pivotable between a shipping position, wherein the second section is substantially perpendicular to the first section, and an operating position wherein the first and second platform sections cooperatively define the platform assembly of the elevator car.

  • Patent number: 4361209
Abstract: An elevator system including an elevator car, and a hydraulic jack. The elevator car includes a metallic tunnel structure which extends vertically upward therethrough, with the hydraulic jack lifting and lowering the elevator car via contact with an end plate secured to the upper end of the tunnel. Stabilizer means in the tunnel, fixed to a predetermined portion of the hydraulic jack, coacts with the inner sidewalls of the tunnel to provide intermediate support and centering forces which promote coaxial alignment between the hydraulic jack and tunnel.

  • Patent number: 4359143
Abstract: An elevator system including an elevator car having a front portion which defines an entranceway. A car support frame is disposed immediately adjacent to the front portion, and a door supported by the car support frame is mounted for movement to open and close the entranceway. The car frame includes an upper beam member, and a transom is mounted below the upper beam member. A door operator for the door depends from the upper beam member, within an enclosure cooperatively defined by the upper beam member and transom. The door operator will accommodate a vertically disposed tunnel surrounding a hydraulic jack which extends upwardly through the elevator car, through the upper beam member, with the door operator including first and second portions disposed on opposite sides of the tunnel, and a third portion which interconnects the first and second portions.

  • Patent number: 4356895
Abstract: A hydraulic elevator system which utilizes a single hydraulic jack having a cylinder fixed below an elevator car, and a plunger. The elevator car is supported on the end of the plunger. The hydraulic jack extends upwardly and into the elevator car, reducing the space required below the car by the amount of the penetration of the hydraulic jack. The hydraulic jack is disposed adjacent to the front portion of the hatchway, enabling it to occupy an enclosed, concealed space in the elevator car, between its entranceway and its operational controls.

  • Patent number: 4322703
Abstract: An electrical switch and actuator therefor, arranged for relative movement. The switch is actuated in response to a predetermined positional relationship between the switch and actuator, with at least the mounting arrangement for the switch enabling both linear and angular adjustment of switch position. The adjustable mounting means for the switch additionally defines a wiring duct for the switch wires.

  • Patent number: 4199907
Abstract: A panel joint for joining two upstanding panel members at right angles to one another. A right angle joining member has slots which cooperate with spacers on the panel members. The spacers on at least one of the panel members include a cam surface which cooperates with a tapered transition portion of the slots in one of the leg portions of the right angle joining member, to facilitate joining panels having surfaces which may not be absolutely flat.

  • Patent number: 4043430
Abstract: An elevator system including an elevator car an enclosure on top of the elevator car, a passenger opening in the elevator car, a door operable between open and closed positions relative to the passenger opening, a door operator for the door a car top inspection station, and a traveling cable. Controls for the door operator are mounted within the enclosure, and controls for the car top inspection station are mounted on a side of the enclosure. The traveling cable is connected to the enclosure. Open wiring in the enclosure interconnects the electrical components of the door operator, the car top inspection station, and the conductors of the traveling cable.

  • Patent number: 4041845
Abstract: Hydraulic elevator apparatus including a cylinder and a fluid actuated plunger which supports an elevator car. A cylinder head seals against fluid leakage to the outside, and it guides the plunger as it moves relative to the cylinder. The cylinder head includes a travel limit structure for the plunger which generates a hydraulic retarding force programmed by a resilient device which adjusts the hydraulic retarding force during a travel limit stop. The resilient device also adds its own retarding force to the plunger, to smoothly decelerate and stop the plunger with minimal impact forces on the cylinder head.
