Abstract: A digital media communication protocol structured to selectively transmit one or more digital media files between a media terminal and a media node via a communication link on an interactive computer network. The communication link is initiated by the media terminal, wherein the media terminal is disposed in an accessible relation to the interactive computer network. The digital media communication protocol, and in particular, the communication link, is further structured to bypass at least one security measure, such as, for example, a password, security key, and/or firewall.

Abstract: A device, system and method for delivering media content to a user are provided. The present disclosure utilizes push technology to send media content, e.g., audio, video, photos, etc., to a user without the user requesting the media content. The method includes the steps receiving a first request for at least one selection of media content; selecting at least one second selection of media content based a profile of the user; and transmitting to the user the at least one selection of media content and the at least one second selection of media content, wherein a portion of the at least one second selection of media content is locked to prevent user access and includes a preview of the locked portion. The method further includes the step charging a transaction fee to an account of the user for unlocking the second selection of the media content.

Abstract: A method and system for providing a payment incentive for downloading and promoting digital content files over a network, e.g., the Internet, are provided. The present disclosure provides for providing a web site for promoting content hosted by at least one server in communication with the network; receiving an indication of at least one digital content file by the web site from a first user; charging the first user a predetermined amount to promote the at least one digital content file; presenting the at least one digital file for promotion on a portion of the web site associated with the first user, wherein subsequent at least one second users pay the predetermined amount for promoting the at least one digital content; and distributing to the first user a first distribution percentage of a total of the predetermined amounts collected.

Abstract: Devices, systems and methods for remotely entering, storing and sharing location addresses for a positional information device, e.g., a global positioning system (GPS) device, are provided. The present disclosure allows a user to easily and safely enter an address into a GPS device by giving that address to a remote communications link and to have that link automatically program the user's GPS device for usage. The device, system and method of the present disclosure further allows the user to use this stored address(es) on multiple GPS devices without having to manually enter the address(es).

Abstract: A method and system for selectively supplying media content to a user includes a first media storage device acquired by the user from a media content provider. The storage device includes first media content and information related to second media content, both of which are preferably accessible from the storage device immediately upon acquisition. After the user has reviewed the storage device's contents, the content provider receives a request from the user (e.g., at a website server) to obtain the second media content. Responsive to the request, the content provider selectively provides the user electronic access to the second media content without providing the user a second media storage device. For example, the content provider may provide the user an access code that allows the user to unlock the second media content from the first media storage device, which content was preferably prestored thereon in encrypted or another locked form.

Abstract: Devices, systems and methods for converting analog data to digital data or digital data to analog data for enabling speech recognition processing on a portable data device are provided. The system includes at least one portable data device including an input module configured to receive analog audio signals; a processing module configured to convert the analog audio signals to digital audio data; a communication module configured to transmit the digital audio data to a remote processor and to receive digital text data from the remote processor; and a display module for displaying the received digital text data; the remote processor configured for receiving digital audio data, converting the digital audio data to digital text data and transmitting the converted digital text data to the at least one portable data device; and a communications network for coupling the remote processor to the at least one portable data device.

Abstract: A system and method for sharing digital content are provided. A system and method of the present disclosure enable a user to automatically list their media content and also enable automatic placement of the content onto a community web site that the user is participating in. The system and method provide for reading at least one identifier of at least one media content; determining at least one pre-selected community web site from a database and an identity of a first user of the at least one media content; transmitting the at least one identifier and the identity to the at least one pre-selected community web site; and posting the at least one identifier on a first predetermined page of the at least one community web site, the first predetermined page being associated with the identity of the first user.

Abstract: A system and method for updating digital content are provided. The system and method of the present disclosure enable updating of content on digital media by dynamically presenting specialized selected content from a global computer network, e.g., the Internet, or other stored digital medium. The system and method provide for reading at least one identifier of at least one media content; transmitting the at least one identifier to a remote server; receiving at least one indication of updated supplemental content related to the at least one media content from the remote server; and presenting the received at least one indication to a user. In one embodiment, the at least one indication is a menu of at least one selectable item. The at least one item may be a movie preview, a movie segment, a web page, an ecommerce website, a product preview, a document or an audio file.

Abstract: A device, system and method for controlling speed of a vehicle are provided. The device includes a locational information module for determining location information and speed; a storage module for storing at least one geographic map including at least one route and a speed limit for the at least one route; a processing module configured to receive the location information, retrieve at least one geographic map based on the location information, determine a speed limit based on the location information and compare the speed of the device to the determined speed limit; and a display module for alerting a user if the speed of the device exceeds the determined speed limit. The present disclosure further provides for a system and method for communicating a subject vehicle's speed to a central server where it can be utilized to analyze traffic congestion patterns or notify selected companies or individuals.

Abstract: A system and method for controlling and storing sensitive information on a global positioning system (GPS) device are provided. The system includes a locational information module for determining location information of the device; an encryption module for encrypting the location information; a processing module for storing the encrypted location information in a storage module; and an input module for inputting a code string for decrypting the location information. Information inputted to and/or generated by the device will be encrypted on the storage module. The storage module can be in any form currently available including optical media, or various types of removable memory cards or cartridges. Furthermore, the storage module may be internal memory and the GPS device may further include a transmission module or connection, e.g., hardwire or wireless, to port the information to a computer.

Abstract: A system and method for providing digital receipts for purchase transactions are provided. The method includes the steps receiving information for a first credit card account for executing a transaction; retrieving a first customer record from a database using information from the first credit card account; charging an amount of the transaction to the first credit card account; and transmitting a receipt to a predetermined location of the customer. The predetermined location may be an e-mail address of the customer or a server residing on the network. By receiving digital receipts, a customer or end-user will be able to digitally store these receipts and view or print the receipts out when necessary. Furthermore, the customer will be able to manage the receipts with conventional software packages.

Abstract: A system and method for issuing and managing a plurality of credit cards are provided. The system and method enables a merchant to sign up customers for their proprietary, e.g., merchant/house, credit card without credit risk to the merchant and then allowing the customers to utilize the proprietary account without carrying the merchant's credit card. The method includes the steps of verifying a first credit card account for an amount of a transaction; retrieving a first customer record from a database using information from the first credit card account; determining if the customer qualifies for a second credit card account; issuing the second credit card account to the customer if the customer qualifies; and charging the amount to the second credit card account, wherein if the customer does not qualify for the second credit card account, charging the amount of the transaction to the first credit card account.

Abstract: A system and method for marking digital content are provided. The system and method of the present disclosure enables a user to mark digital audio and/or video content with instructions so that the content can be controlled and/or hyperlinked to additional content including sites on the global computer network, e.g., the Internet, via a marking script. The system and method provide for navigating the digital content to at least one location; entering at least one instruction at the at least one location; determining a reference of the at least one location; and storing the at least one instruction with the determined reference in a script, wherein the script controls playback of the content. The reference of the location in the content may include but is not limited to a playing time of the content, a subtitle in the content or a frame of the content.

Abstract: A system and method for controlling an operation of at least one electronic device or appliance are provided. The system and method obviates the need of a user of a plurality of electronic devices, e.g., a television, digital video disc (DVD) player, VCR, etc, to keep track of and maintain a corresponding plurality of remote control devices. The system and method provide a user with a graphic representation of the remote control device for each electronic appliance on a display controllable by a single, easy-to-use, intuitive transmitter. The graphic representations and associated control codes for the plurality of electronic appliances are downloadable via a global computer network, e.g., the Internet. In accordance with the present disclosure, a user can access all of the functions of each of the plurality of electronic appliances with a single remote transmitter without having to manually program the transmitter for each electronic appliance.

Abstract: A system and method for obtaining information on digital media content are provided. The system and method of the present disclosure obtains information on digital media content by querying the media content through a remote server on a global computer network, e.g., the Internet, via a remote control device that uses one button for the query. The present disclosure enables a user to obtain information on media content by clicking one button on a remote control while watching or listening to the content. The user will be able to obtain specific information on the content, conduct e-commerce transactions on the content or direct specific actions by the media player or electronic device (e.g. a computer, cable box, DVD player, etc.) such as recording the content to a remote device, a portable device, or another computer on the network.

Abstract: A method and system for creating an equity exchange fund for public and private entities are provided. The method includes the steps of receiving an application to participate in the fund from at least one investor, the investor having a position in at least one commercial entity; evaluating the entity based on at least one predetermined criteria; if the entity is acceptable, performing a valuation of the position in the entity; and determining a number of shares of the fund to be exchanged for the position in the entity. The determining the number of shares step includes determining a future value of the position at a scheduled date of liquidation of the fund; dividing the future value of the position by a total current fund value plus the future value of the position to determine a ratio; and multiplying a number of shares of the fund by the ratio.

Abstract: A system and method for embedding information in digital images and using the information to copyright the digital images are provided. The system includes a digital imaging capture device including a capture module configured to capture at least one digital image; a processing module configured to associate information to the digital image; and a transmission module configured to transmit the digital image and the associated information to a computing device; and the computing device including a communication device configured to receive at least one digital image file and associated information; and a processor configured to parse the associated information and store each piece of parsed information in at least one field of a record of a database, populate at least one field of a copyright registration form with information extracted from the database, and transmit the copyright registration form to a copyright office of a particular jurisdiction.

Abstract: A method and system for designing and affixing symbology, e.g., an identifier, into digital and printed images and using that symbology to link these images to a global computer network to allow the organization and processing of these images both while in digital form, and later when in printed form are provided. The method includes the steps of capturing an image with a digital image capture device and creating a digital image file; associating at least one identifier to the digital image file; and encoding the at least one identifier of the digital image file. The identifier includes a site location number (SLN), a customer identification number (CIN), a date the image was taken (DIT) and a picture sequence number (PSN). The identifier will be printed with the image and be used to retrieve the image at a later date and process user requests.

Abstract: A digital imaging device and method for embedding and retrieving of information in digital images are provided. The digital imaging device includes a capture module for capturing an image and creating a digital image file; a locational information module for determining a location of the device when capturing the image; and a processing module for associating the location information to the digital image file. The device further includes a user verification module for verifying an identity of a user of the device at a time of image capture and an encryption module for encrypting the digital image file and associated information. The method provides for securing information associated with the digital images and for verifying activities of a user.

Abstract: A digital imaging device and methods thereof that will enable the embedding and retrieving of information in digital images are provided. The digital imaging device includes a capture module for capturing an image and creating a digital image file; an input module for inputting information regarding the captured image; and a processing module for associating the inputted information to the digital image file. The device further includes a scanning module for reading a symbology associated with a printed digital image and wherein the processing module is adapted to use the symbology to retrieve the associated information of the digital image file. The device may be embodied as a digital camera, a mobile phone, personal digital assistant (PDA), etc.
