  • Patent number: 7473215
Abstract: A container formed of an erected body blank and a pair of erected wall blanks made of corrugated board material, and a method of forming same. The body blank has a bottom panel and an erected, upstanding pair of end wall panel areas at opposite ends of said bottom panel. Each of the pair of wall blanks has an end wall portion and at least one extension portion. The erected pair of wall blanks are disposed generally along a perimeter of the bottom panel of the erected body blank adjacent to the end wall panels such that the end wall portions of the pair of wall blanks and the upstanding pair of end wall panel areas of the body blank are attached together, and the at least one extension portion extends inside of the perimeter of the bottom panel.

  • Patent number: 7399267
Abstract: An apparatus and method for the vacuum assisted bonding of sections of corrugated cardboard and for manufacturing corrugated cardboard. A pressure plate has a bore for applying a vacuum therethrough. A first section of corrugated cardboard has an orifice which is aligned with the bore in the pressure plate. Adhesive is applied between the first section of corrugated cardboard and a second section of corrugated cardboard and the second section is placed adjacent to the first section away from the pressure plate. A vacuum is applied through the bore in the pressure plate and orifice in the first sections to cause the first and second sections to be drawn and adhered together. In the manufacture of corrugated cardboard, vacuum and optionally hot air are applied to opposite edges of the sandwiched core of fluted linerboard with adhesive and overlaying flat linerboard to draw them together to form the corrugated cardboard.

  • Patent number: 5369939
Abstract: A lidding apparatus has a pair of brake shoes which elevate a box from a conveyor, the box being decelerated by the brake shoes. A lidding assembly includes an opposite pair of grooves with a release configuration for supporting a flat lid blank but allowing the flaps of the blank to rotate out of the grooves. The lid blank is maintained in a flat condition as the lid blank and box are bought into mutually centered contact whereupon the side flaps are rotated toward the box through the clearances provided by the release configuration by shoes of the lidding assembly.

  • Patent number: 4596542
Abstract: A mandrel has its face formed to define a negative impression of reinforcing elements to be formed into the walls of a Bliss box. The reinforcing elements may comprise tubular corner posts and/or intermediate hollow ribs or posts. The mandrel is mounted in a machine frame for reciprocation along its axis so that upon full extension of the mandrel it is disposed within a die cavity in which the Bliss body panel is formed around a pair of upstanding end panels. When fully retracted, the mandrel is positioned beneath and adjacent to a pair of magazines for holding supplies of flat end panel blanks, positioned on opposite sides of a superstructure frame of the mandrel. The superstructure is fitted with spaced pairs of feed pawls, a first set of which strips the flat end panels out of the supply magazines to deliver them to an arrested position, corresponding to the retracted position of the mandrel, as a result of extension of the mandrel. Concurrently, the flaps of each end panel are partially shoed inwardly.

  • Patent number: 4345905
Abstract: A machine for forming a container with full width 3-ply laminar end walls from a preformed cardboard container body blank having side and outer end wall ply forming panels along the sides and ends of a bottom forming panel and inner end wall ply forming panels extending endwise from the ends of the side wall panels. The machine erects and seals the body blank with a mandrel and forming die to form a finished container by applying glue to selected end wall panel surfaces, folding the inner end wall panels upwardly relative to the side wall panels, and then folding the side and outer end wall panels in succession to upright positions relative to the bottom panel to upstanding side by side positions inwardly of the outer end panel with the confronting end panel surfaces in mutual adhesive bonding contact.

  • Patent number: 4197789
Abstract: A tray in tray container of corrugated board material is formed from a pair of pre-formed flat body blanks in a bi-level machine having vertically aligned upper and lower dies in which a mandrel reciprocates vertically. The inner body blanks and outer body blanks are stacked in feed hoppers adjacent the upper and lower dies, respectively, and individually stripped out of their respective hoppers into horizontally disposed positions over their respective dies, substantially simultaneously. The feed directions of the two hoppers are right angularly related to one another and glue stripes are applied to each of the body blanks during their transit from the hopper into the corresponding die.
