Abstract: A water treatment apparatus includes a water treatment vessel providing a water treatment zone which, in use, will contain a volume of water to be treated. A water inlet leads into the vessel, with a water outlet leading from the vessel. A cartridge holder for holding a water treatment cartridge containing a water treatment substance for treating water in the vessel, and a controller for controlling the level of water in the vessel, are also provided.

Abstract: The present invention provides a dispenser for dispensing a water treatment substance into water. The dispenser contains a holder for holding a supply of a solid water dispersable water treatment substance. The holder has at least one primary water opening through which untreated water can enter the holder and treated water, containing water treatment substance dispersed therein, can exit the holder or be dispensed from the holder. A component is attached to the holder and has a secondary opening which is spaced from the primary opening and through which untreated and treated water can pass. An enclosed water flow path is defined between the primary opening and the secondary openings.

Abstract: A liquid treatment installation comprises apparatus for controllably treating a liquid with a liquid treatment substance. The apparatus comprises a body, a container for a liquid treatment substance in the body, and a removable closure member on the body. The installation also includes a liquid supply conduit connected to the liquid inlet of the apparatus, a liquid discharge conduit connected to the liquid outlet of the apparatus, and level control means for maintaining the liquid level in the container, thereby to dose liquid passing through the body accurately with liquid treatment substance.

Abstract: A water treatment device includes a buoyang body having a sleeve portion within which a holder containing a water treatment substance is housed. The sleeve portion and the holder each have holes therethrough to permit the flow of water therethrough. The sleeve portion and holder are arranged to regulate the flow of water through the holes such that quiescent conditions prevail inside the holder. This allows a rapidly dissolving water treatment substance such as calcium hypochlorite to be used.

Abstract: A composition for the purification of water includes a suitable coagulant for coagulating solid impurities dispersed in the water to form flocs and an organic hydrophilic colloid capable, when dispersed in the water, of absorbing large quantities of water to form a sol for aggregating the flocs. The proportion of organic hydrophilic colloid in the composition is such that when the composition is used to purify the intended quantity of water, the organic hydrophilic colloid does not interfere with coagulant dispersal in the water or with floc formation.

Abstract: Apparatus for controllably treating a liquid with a liquid treatment substance includes a body having a first portion providing a container-receiving zone and an opening leading into this zone, as well as a second portion having a liquid inlet and a liquid outlet defining a liquid flow path between them, with the zone being in communication with the liquid flow path. The apparatus also includes a container for a liquid treatment substance. The container comprises a cylindrical sleeve, an end piece closing off a first end of the cylinder sleeve, apertures in the sleeve in proximity to the first end, and seal means between the first end of the sleeve and the aperture. The container is movable from an inoperative position in which the seal means seals fluid tightly against the first portion to prevent liquid passing from the flow path into the aperture, to an operative position in which the first end of the sleeve protrudes at least partially into the flow path.
