  • Patent number: 7891875
Abstract: A container is configured to store and dispense a material. More specifically, the container includes a top portion that is configured to be partially torn from a body portion of the container to dispense the material. The container includes a reinforced side portion that resists tearing. The tear-resistive portion may incorporate a strand (or thread) that is significantly more difficult to tear, as compared to the container, itself. In an implementation, the container may includes two hollow portions—a first portion for storing material and a second portion for securing the resistive thread. The two hollow portions may be separated by a crimped portion of the container. In other implementations, front and rear portions of the container may be glued together to create the two hollow portions. Alternately, the lateral edges of the front and rear surfaces of the container may be fused to create the tear-resistive portion.

  • Publication number: 20060024978
Abstract: In one aspect the present invention provides a method for manufacturing a silicon carbide semiconductor device. A layer of silicon dioxide is formed on a silicon carbide substrate and nitrogen is incorporated at the silicon dioxide/silicon carbide interface. In one embodiment, nitrogen is incorporated by annealing the semiconductor device in nitric oxide or nitrous oxide. In another embodiment, nitrogen is incorporated by annealing the semiconductor device in ammonia. In another aspect, the present invention provides a silicon carbide semiconductor device that has a 4H-silicon carbide substrate, a layer of silicon dioxide disposed on the 4H-silicon carbide substrate and a region of substantial nitrogen concentration at the silicon dioxide/silicon carbide interface.

  • Publication number: 20050103713
Abstract: A method of producing a novel small-scale flow channel in a mesoscale analytic device from a solid multi-layered heterostructure with one or more channel layers sandwiched between adjoining barrier layers. The channel layer consists of a thin-film of a material of different composition than the barrier layers. At least one of the layers has a defined small-scale thickness. A channel or recess is formed in the heterostructure by etching away the channel layer to a preselected depth. The amount of the channel layer which is etched away determines the depth of the channel, and the thickness of the channel layer determines the width. A method of producing a die for forming a small-scale channel is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20050023156
Abstract: Nanostructured material transport devices and their method of fabrication, which involves applying molecular coatings to nano-openings in the devices to reduce the lateral dimensions and modify liquid solid interface characteristics of the nano-openings. Material transport devices having nano-openings with lateral dimensions confined to approximately 1 nm are obtainable.
