  • Patent number: 5587067
Abstract: Headworks for preliminary treatment of wastewater in a sewage treatment plant provides for primary filtration of grit and other coarse debris, de-ragging in a flume which carries the water away from the filter, chemical addition in a chemical mixing tank and scum removal in a scum removal tank provided with a scum skimmer. The scum removal tank may also be provided with means for pre-aerating the wastewater, secondary grit removal means, secondary de-ragging means and a partial flume for flow measurement. A debris collection device in the form of a flexible fabric sock is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4818391
Abstract: Apparatus for treating waste water by the solids contact aerobic biological treatment process comprises a clarifier and a reaction basin in liquid communication with one another. In one embodiment, the reaction basin has an aerator which also circulates liquid through the clarifier by way of pipes arranged to collect liquid from the surface of the reaction basin and deliver it to a location adjacent a back wall of the clarifier. The clarifier has a bottom wall which slopes towards the reaction basin. Sludge particles in the liquid settle out in the clarifier and liquid discharged from the pipes flushes the settled biological sludge back into the aeration section of the reaction basin. In another embodiment the clarifier and reaction basin together form an oxidation ditch defining a closed loop. An aeration device continuously circulates liquid around the loop and through the clarifier.

  • Patent number: 4530762
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the anaerobic treatment of wastewater containing organic matter. The apparatus includes a closed tank to which the wastewater is delivered through liquid inlet means below a reaction hood. The reaction hood defines a mixing zone in which influent water mixes with liquid and biological solids already in the zone. A portion of the liquid being mixed is withdrawn and passed through a gas separator which removes entrained gas and returns the liquid to the tank. The tank may include fixed film media for improving treatment efficiency. Other features of the invention are the use of a sludge thickener for concentrating sludge removed from the tank and the use of a second gas separator in a treated effluent conduit from the tank. That separator has an adjustable baffle or weir which can be raised to flush scum into surface launders in the tank.

  • Patent number: 4303517
Abstract: The apparatus includes a tank of steel, or concrete, into which the liquid to be treated is introduced vertically through a centrally located inlet at the tank bottom. Disposed inside the tank, above said inlet, are a tubular venturi-type eductor member and a conical partition member which defines a liquid mixing, coagulating, flocculating and sludge recirculating zone. As the entering liquid flows through the eductor, it draws in a very large volume of surrounding sludge to establish a high degree of sludge recirculation and mixing.

  • Patent number: 4272369
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a liquid treatment apparatus which includes a clarifier tank and an integral sludge thickener tank. Liquid enters the clarifier tank through an inlet member disposed generally centrally of the bottom wall of the member and passes upwardly through an eductor member into a mixing zone defined by a reaction cone. Recirculation of liquid and suspended particles below the cone promotes flocculation of those particles. Gravity settling also takes place in the relatively quiescent area outside the cone. The liquid inlet member is of divergent cross-sectional shape for dissipating some of the energy in the liquid and a variable speed rotary impeller is disposed in the inlet and can be adjusted to control liquid circulation according to the flow rate of influent liquid. The apparatus also includes an integral sludge thickener tank to which sludge and liquid are continuously delivered from the clarifier tank.
