Publication number: 20170291154Abstract: A mixing tank is disclosed for reducing ingestion across an interface. The tank may include a first zone including most of the volume of the tank; a second zone including the interface; a source of mixing energy configured to provide a first bulk energy dissipation rate in the first zone; a divider located between said first zone and said second zone inhibiting transfer of said mixing energy from said first zone to said second zone to preserve in said second zone a bulk power dissipation level less than a said first bulk power dissipation level; and a mass transport passageway between said first zone and said second zone for preserving a uniformity between the first and second zones. A method is disclosed for manufacturing a mixing tank and for retrofitting and existing mixing tank and for managing mixing to prevent air ingestion.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 26, 2015Publication date: October 12, 2017Inventors: Yuri KOKOTOV, Roman SHEINMAN, Leonid BRAGINSKY

Publication number: 20100176063Abstract: A method and apparatus for separating immiscible liquids effectively are provided in the present invention. Such method and apparatus may allow coalescing of relatively small-sized droplets into larger droplets for easing and improving the degree of separation thereafter. The method may be defined by a system of equations describing the requirements and conditions imposed on the kinetics of droplet breaking and coalescence as functions of properties of the involved liquids, involved energy, and means for inducing mixing energy into the mixture. According to the method, such means may include viscosity, interfacial tension, droplet diameter distribution, average droplet diameter, average volumetric droplet diameter, concentration of the dispersed liquid in the coalescing apparatus, restricting pressure of the electrostatic double layer surrounding the interfacial boundary of the droplets, and turbulent energy dissipation distribution per volume within the coalescing apparatus.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 12, 2009Publication date: July 15, 2010Inventors: Yuri KOKOTOV, Leonid BRAGINSKY, David SHTEINMAN, Shalom SLONIM

Patent number: 7027933Abstract: A method that analyzes mass spectra using a digital computer is disclosed. The method includes entering into a digital computer a data set obtained from mass spectra from a plurality of samples. Each sample is, or is to be assigned to a class within a class set having two or more classes and each class is characterized by a different biological status. A classification model is then formed. The classification model discriminates between the classes in the class set.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2003Date of Patent: April 11, 2006Assignee: Ciphergen Biosystems, Inc.Inventors: Chris D. Patent number: 6586728Abstract: A method and system of detecting mass to charge ratio of ions. The method includes producing charged ions in a vacuum, accelerating the charged ions in an electric field into a free flight tube and detecting the charged ions at a detector associated with the free flight tube. A control system selects a bandwidth for filtering a signal produced by the detector and the signal produced by the detector is then filtered with a variable width digital filter based upon the selected bandwidth. The bandwidth for filtering the signal may be selected from a look-up table within the control system based upon the mass to charge ratio of an ion of interest. Alternatively, a peak bandwidth within the signal produced by the detector may be determined and the signal produced by the detector may then be filtered with the variable width digital filter based upon the determined peak bandwidth.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2000Date of Patent: July 1, 2003Assignee: Ciphergen Biosystems, Inc.Inventors: Edward J. Patent number: 5585569Abstract: An apparatus and a method for evaluating the stability of a disperse solid material against caking. The apparatus includes a chamber for storing a sample of the disperse solid material, the chamber having a diverging cross sectional area along a line of action of a compression load compressing the sample so as to cake a portion of the sample and an opening for enabling separation of the uncaked portion of the sample from the caked portion of the sample, a shutter for selectively sealing the opening during partial aggregation of the sample and a compression load mechanism for applying the compression load. The method includes the steps of providing a known weight of a sample of a disperse solid material, applying a compression load so as to cake a portion of the sample, separating an uncaked portion of the sample from a caked portion of the sample after partial aggregation of the sample and computing an index for the stability of the disperse solid material against caking.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1995Date of Patent: December 17, 1996Assignee: Temech Chemical Engineering Ltd.Inventors: Leonid Braginsky, Yuri Kokotov, Reuven Wachs
