  • Patent number: 4629136
Abstract: A demountable reel for the winding thereon of a paper web comprises two identical sub-assemblies. Each sub-assembly comprises a pair of fingers disposed on opposite sides of the axis of rotation of the reel and held on an end cheek. When the two identical sub-assemblies are brought together with the fingers interleaved, the fingers each define one of four quadrants of the surface of the shaft of the reel. The fingers in each sub-assembly are provided with elastic clips for engaging the end cheek on the other sub-assembly. A bearing protrusion on each finger engages the cheek in the other sub-assembly to support the fingers against crushing by a roll of paper web. The fingers trap the web between them to allow winding of the reel in any direction. In a second preferred embodiment, each sub-assembly comprises a set of three fingers for interleaving with a corresponding set of three fingers from a second modified sub-assembly.

  • Patent number: 4604929
Abstract: A guillotine assembly is provided wherein a blade is insertable between two halves of an anvil to cut a paper web. The blade is provided with teeth which engage triangular grooves in a resilient member of the anvil which is pressed against a rigid anvil plate. Points on the teeth first penetrate the web. Thereafter, tooth mid-sections form a series of slits in the web. Thereafter, points of contiguity between the teeth jam the slits to sever the web. The teeth each enter one of the grooves in the resilient member for the points of contiguity to engage and displace the resilient member in the final stage of cutting.

  • Patent number: 4393788
Abstract: The protective screen of a through-the-wall automated-teller machine covers a recessed part of the machine facia and is retracted through a slot in the facia wall to reveal environmentally-vulnerable items for customer operation. The screen, which is in the form of a curved metal plate, is driven in both retraction and extension via a single rack-and-pinion coupling. The rack is a length of powered-drive belting clamped upon a foam-rubber backing to the inside of the plate centrally of two pairs of arcuate channel-guides for the two side-edges respectively of the plate. The channel-guides of one pair are mounted on opposed side-walls of the facia recessed-part externally of the machine whereas those of the other pair are mounted internally behind the facia. Nylon blocks clipped to corners of the plate run in the channel-guides.
