  • Patent number: 4162554
Abstract: The disclosed retractable brush comprises a casing made of a resilient plastic material and having generally cup shaped front and rear members which are relatively rotatable, said front member having a front wall and an annular generally cylindrical side wall projecting rearwardly therefrom, said front wall having a plurality of bristle receiving openings therein, said rear member having a rear wall with an annular generally cylindrical side wall projecting forwardly therefrom, a bristle carrying member movable in said casing and having bristles movable outwardly and retractable rearwardly through said openings, and operating means in said casing for advancing and retracting said bristle carrying member in response to relative rotation of said front and rear members in opposite directions, said annular side wall of said front member having an internal inwardly projecting annular lip thereon and an internal annular groove therein immediately in front of said annular lip, said annular side wall of said rear mem

  • Patent number: 4147174
Abstract: The disclosed self-cleaning retractable comb comprises an elongated member made of flexible resilient resinous plastic material and comprising a comb portion and body portion at opposite ends thereof, with a handle portion extending between said comb portion and said body portion. The comb portion is formed with a plurality of comb teeth which are slidably received in openings formed in a lower wall on said body portion. The comb portion and the teeth are movable between an extended position, in which the teeth are extended through the openings, and a retracted position in which the tips of the teeth are retracted into the openings. The handle portion is flexed into a generally U-shaped loop and is effective to bias the comb portion toward its retracted position. The body portion has sidewall means for enclosing the teeth, when retracted, and stop means for limiting the retraction of the comb portion.

  • Patent number: 4143667
Abstract: Retractable brushes are disclosed having provision for dispensing any suitable liquid or other material which is to be used in connection with the brush. The material to be dispensed is held in a container which is mounted on the rear side of the brush. A disengageable coupling is provided between the container and a passage extending through an axial member to the front of the brush. The container may take the form of a squeeze bottle or may otherwise be compressible.

  • Patent number: 4001910
Abstract: This invention relates to retractable brushes, of the general type having bristles which can be retracted into the casing of the brush, or moved outwardly from the casing into the position at which the bristles are used. Wiping flaps are provided on a retractable brush to engage and wipe the bristles as they are extended and retracted through the openings in the front wall of the brush. The wiping flaps may take the form of a thin membrane extending across each of the openings and formed with slits. The brush may be arranged to be extended and retracted by producing relative rotation between the front and rear members of the brush. To assist in securing the front and rear members together, a detent connection may be provided between one of the members and an axial post connected to the other member. Detent elements may also be provided between the front member and cam members which are provided on the rear member.
