  • Patent number: 6325315
Abstract: A change-speed construction for a fishing rod includes a hollow cylindrical shaft, and a control shaft that is movable within the cylindrical shaft between an outer position and an inner position. A key member is carried on a carrier, which is disposed axially and movably within the cylindrical shaft. A coiled small compression spring has two ends that are fastened respectively to the carrier and the control shaft. Two gears are sleeved rotatably on the cylindrical shaft. The key member is engaged within a keyway unit in one of the gears when the control shaft is located at the outer position, and within a keyway unit in the other one of the gears when the control shaft is located at the inner position. As such, the key member is urged by the small compression spring to move smoothly between the keyway units.

  • Patent number: 6296200
Abstract: A fly fishing reel includes a fishing-rod connecting member, a main shaft, a spool, a retaining member, a brake device, and a drag adjustment device. The main shaft exetends rotatably through a central hole in the connecting member, and has a left end, a right end, and an outward flange that extends radially and outwardly from the main shaft near the left end. The spool is sleeved on the main shaft so as to rotate synchronously therewith, and is provided with a handle. The retaining member is mounted removably on the right end of the main shaft, and is disposed adjacent to the handle for retaining the connecting member and the spool between the outward flange of the main shaft and the retaining member. The retaining member can be removed from the main shaft for replacement of the spool. The brake device is disposed between the left end of the main shaft and the connecting member for stopping rotation of the main shaft within the connecting member when a force applied to the handle is released.

  • Patent number: 6290161
Abstract: A winder comprises a base, a wire wheel, and a braking mechanism. The base has a face plate which is provided with a main shaft and at least one arcuate hole. The wire wheel is rotatably mounted on the main shaft. The braking mechanism comprises a one-way bearing, a shaft sleeve, a brake disk, two friction pads, a clamp seat, and an adjustment knob. The one-way bearing is disposed in the axial hole of the wire wheel. The shaft sleeve is fitted over the main shaft such that a first end thereof is in contact with the inner edge of the bearing, and that a second end thereof is fastened with the brake disk. The friction pads are fastened with the shaft sleeve and located at two sides of the brake disk. The clamp seat is slidably disposed on the shaft sleeve and is fastened with the adjustment knob. The magnitude of frictional force between the brake disk and the friction pads is adjusted by turning the adjustment knob, thereby resulting in a braking effect on the wire wheel in motion.

  • Patent number: 6032891
Abstract: A length counting device is provided for a fishing reel which includes a fishing rod, a spool having a first rotary disk and a second rotary disk, and a fishing line wound around the spool. The counting device includes a supporting bracket mounted on the fishing rod and having a pivot ear. A teaching counting roller is rotatably mounted on the pivot ear and includes an outer periphery defining an annular guiding groove through which the fishing line is reeved. A first magnet is mounted on the outer periphery of the teaching counting roller to rotate therewith. A first magnetic sensor is mounted on the supporting bracket, wherein the first magnet can be rotated by the teaching counting roller to align with the first magnetic sensor. A counter is mounted on the fishing reel and includes a sensing circuit having a second magnetic sensor and a third magnetic sensor each located adjacent to the first rotary disk of the spool.
