  • Patent number: 9599401
Abstract: A method and device for controlling a melting and refining process in an electric arc furnace for melting a metal, wherein the electric arc furnace includes molten and solid metal and a slag layer on the surface of the molten metal, wherein an electromagnetic stirrer is arranged for stirring the molten metal. The method includes calculating/determining masses of the molten and solid metal at a point of time, wherein the calculation is based on initial values of the molten and solid metal, an arc power supplied to the electric arc furnace, and temperatures of the molten and solid metal, determining a stirring power based on the calculated/determined masses, and supplying the determined stirring power to the electromagnetic stirrer.

  • Publication number: 20150159237
Abstract: The invention concerns a Method of recovering values from aluminum dross comprising the steps of: a1) dissolving the aluminum dross in water thereby forming a salt solution, NH3 containing gas, and solid residues; b1) separating the NH3 containing gas; and c1) reacting the NH3 containing gas with CO2 in CO2 containing water saturated to at least 20% of maximum CO2 saturation to form ammonium carbonate and/or ammonium bicarbonate. According to another embodiment, the method comprises the steps of: a2) dissolving the aluminum dross in CO2 containing water saturated to at least 20% of maximum CO2 saturation, thereby forming a salt solution, and solid residues; and b2) separating the solid residues from the salt solution.

  • Publication number: 20140212347
Abstract: Lead and/or Indium cam be recovered from cullet containing indium and/or lead, such as cullet from CRTs and flat panel displays. A chloride salt melt including AlCl3 is used to dissolve the cullet. The melt may be electrolyzed and the lead and/or indium and other metals may be selectively electro-deposited from the salt melt. The two steps may be combined in a continuous process. The salts in the salt melt are not consumed but can be recycled, with exception of the flux due to formation of chlorine gas and alumina. It is also possible to recover lead and/or indium and other metals from the salt melt by vaporizing the respective chlorides and condensing them, or by leaching the salt phase in water and extracting the metals as hydroxides by hydrometallurgy methods.
