This composition is preferably devoid of primary alcohol. The inventive composition may be in the form of a stable transparent lotion and may be used, in particular, for gently cleaning and/or removing make-up from the skin and/or eyes. The present invention also relates to a process for dissolving an alkyl para-hydroxybenzoate in an aqueous cosmetic composition which by adding at least one metabisulfite thereto.
