  • Patent number: 8924775
Abstract: A data storage device may comprise storage media comprising a plurality of sectors, and a controller configured to selectively read and write data thereto. The controller may be further configured to tag a sector as a bad sector to be relocated after a first failed read and to untag the tagged sector after a successful write attempt after the first failed read. After a second failed read from the sector subsequent to the successful write, the controller may tag the untagged sector as a bad sector to be relocated and adjust a recurring bad sector counter for that sector. On a subsequent write request, based at least in part on the bad sector counter and a threshold, the controller may determine whether to relocate data stored at a physical location on the data storage device corresponding to the sector to a spare location on the data storage device.

Abstract: Techniques for ordered and duplicate-free delivery of wireless data frames are provided. A source address, a destination address, and a message sequence number are acquired from a wireless data frame. The message sequence number is compared against a last-received message sequence number, and a last-delivered message sequence number. The destination address is also compared to a current address. In response to the compares, a decision is made to forward the wireless data frame to the destination address, discard the wireless frame as a duplicate wireless data frame, queue the wireless data frame, or release the wireless data frame to a next protocol layer.

  • Patent number: 7822440
Abstract: A method for operating a communication station in a communicating environment includes: (a) monitoring the environment to ascertain whether the station is receiving an unintended sensed signal not intended for the station from at least one signal source; (b) if the station has not received a predetermined number of unintended sensed signals during a predetermined time interval, operating the station in an omni-directional mode; and (c) if the station has received a predetermined number of sensed signals during the predetermined time interval, saving an indication of a reception direction from which arrived each unintended sensed signal; and operating the station in a directional mode. While in the directional mode, the station is sensitive to receiving signals arriving from a sensing direction other than from a reception direction, and the station transmits signals toward the sensing direction.
