  • Patent number: 4889145
Abstract: A wrapper for a smoking rod comprises a permeable substrate carrying a discontinuous coating of a porosity-reducing composition such that, in the coated area, the porosity of the wrapper is less than two thirds of the porosity of the uncoated substrate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 25, 1988
Date of Patent: December 26, 1989
    Assignee: Gallagher Limited
    Inventors: Brian Adams, Linda Cunningham
  • Patent number: 4784163
Abstract: A printing ink comprises a liquid vehicle, containing a binder, and a smoke-enhancing additive in the form of particles that are insoluble in the liquid vehicle and that have sizes in the range 5-80 microns, preferably at least 90% of the particles having sizes in the range 10-50 microns. The inks are printed onto the inner surface of a smoking rod wrapper in amounts such that the weight of dry deposits is in the range 20 to 60 mg per wrapper.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 10, 1987
Date of Patent: November 15, 1988
    Assignee: Gallaher Limited
Inventors: Brian Adams, Linda Cunningham, Shane C. Browning
  • Patent number: 4784164
Abstract: A smoking rod wrapper material has porosity apertures which are partially or fully blocked by a coating of a heat-removable, porosity-reducing composition. The composition melts as the burning tip of the smoking rod approaches to increase the porosity of the wrapper.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 2, 1987
Date of Patent: November 15, 1988
    Assignee: Gallaher Limited
Inventors: Brian Adams, Shane C. Browning, Linda Cunningham
