  • Patent number: 4784108
Abstract: An apparatus for dressing a grinding wheel which utilizes a pair of cutting tools which are mounted in an in-line facing relationship with the grinding wheel to be located between the tools. These tools are to be moved to simultaneously engage the side walls of the grinding wheel so that, as the grinding wheel is rotated, both sides of the grinding wheel are dressed at the same time. The apparatus also includes a pair of second cutting tools which are to be used for forming bevels on the circumferential edge of the grinding wheel.

  • Patent number: 4152932
Abstract: A fixture and method is disclosed for assembling and standardizing embodiments of fuel injection valves of the outward opening type and in particular those valves having a retainer connection between the stem of the valve closure and the compression spring urging the closure to its seated position which permits the stem to rock with respect to the end of the spring. The retainer connection is formed of one or more members of selectable thickness, or having a selectable stop ring height, wherein by use of the fixture a plurality of valves can be manufactured having substantially identical flow rate characteristics. A subassembly comprising the valve body, valve spring and valve closure are held in the fixture and a specified assembled load is applied to the spring. Measurements are made leading to a determination of the thickness to be employed for said member(s) to be assembled in that valve.

  • Patent number: 4082072
Abstract: The walls of the plunger (piston) of the fuel metering pump are relatively thin so that, when pressurized, they expand to provide more effective sealing. A plug is then used in the bore of the plunger to reduce its volume. In one embodiment the wall thickness in the portion of the plunger between the valving openings is further reduced to increase the wall expansion, and thus sealing, adjacent the valving openings. In some embodiments, ends of the members about the plunger are provided with skirts to decrease their tendency to expand, thus improving the sealing.

  • Patent number: 4064855
Abstract: Immediately downstream of the high pressure fuel pump and electrical signal is generated by that part of the fuel pressure impulse intended to cause the fuel injection valve to close. That electrical signal energizes a solenoid causing the opening of a pressure relief valve incorporated into the valve body of the fuel injection valve. The relief valve is timed to open upon the closing of the fuel injection valve. In a multi-cylinder engine, the pressure relief valves for all cylinders are opened simultaneously. The pressure relief valves discharge into a pressure relief chamber, which may be individual for each valve or a common manifold communicating with the fuel supply.
