Patent number: 4674146Abstract: A hand held portable blower/vacuum assembly includes a gasoline engine mounted on a blower housing that is interchangeably operable as a blower or vacuum unit and is symmetrically arranged for right or left hand use. A U-shaped carrying handle is secured to an upper housing enclosing the engine by means of a mounting structure that includes anti vibration elements. For eliminating the effect of both gyroscopic and centrifugal forces, the engine is arranged with the piston and crankshaft in horizontal and vertical orientations respectively, while both exhaust and cooling air are discharged from the front of the unit away from an operator so as to provide a balanced unit operable with either the right or left hand. A multi-position throttle located on the backside of the unit removed from the handle is incrementally settable for operating the unit at preselected fixed speeds.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1985Date of Patent: June 23, 1987Assignee: Emerson Electric CompanyInventors: Lloyd H. Patent number: 4508068Abstract: A fuel priming system for spark ignited internal combustion engines includes a manually actuated plunger pump for delivering liquid fuel from a tank to a reservoir chamber formed in part by a flexible diaphragm. A fuel injection passage leads from the reservoir chamber through a flow restricting orifice to an injection point formed in the engine intake air flow passage downstream of the carburetor venturi. The injection system provides for enriching the fuel-air mixture during cold starting while minimizing the chance of engine flooding. The finite fuel volume in the reservoir chamber also provides a sufficient quantity of fuel for automatic control of a rich fuel-air mixture during engine warm-up.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1983Date of Patent: April 2, 1985Assignee: Emerson Electric Co.Inventors: Lloyd H.
