  • Patent number: 5390402
Abstract: Segmented guide tubes for the signal-bearing wires for journal and thrust bearing instrumentation are received in the lower bearing housing section without removal of the rotor or major tear-down of the turbine. Guide tube segments for the thrust bearings are specifically shaped and configured to enable remote or blind threaded connection within the lower housing section with fittings facilitating the "feel" for the alignment necessary to thread a first straight tube segment from above the lower housing section into the fitting of a second guide segment introduced into the drain hole of the lower housing section. Once threaded together, signal-bearing wires may be snaked through the resultant guide tube assembly. Guide tubes for the journal bearing include side guide tube segments secured at their upper ends to the lower housing section and to a Y-tube connection at their lower ends.

  • Patent number: 4413477
Abstract: A liner assembly for a combustor used in connection with a gas turbine is disclosed. The liner assembly comprises a double-wall structure including an outer structural shell and a separate throat insert coupled to and situated in the shell. The throat insert has a reduced throat section which divides the outer shell into upstream and downstream chambers. The upstream end of the throat insert is flexibly coupled in a stationary position to the outer shell by integral fingers and the downstream end is flexibly coupled to the outer shell, preferably by an air seal incorporating a plurality of flexible fingers located at the downstream end of the throat insert.

  • Patent number: 4249372
Abstract: A cross-ignition assembly with a cross-fire tube supported intermediate two adjacent combustors by mounting plates affixed thereto so as to provide a conduit for the flow of hot combustion gases therebetween. The cross-fire tube comprises coaxial telescoping tubular members. A leaf spring retains the outer end of each tubular member in its operative position to effect a cantilever support for each end of the cross-fire tube. A series of cooperating air passageways and channels allow cooling air to flow across the outside and along the inside of the cross-fire tube.

  • Patent number: 3997962
Abstract: Means are provided to remove the high turbine rotor in a twin spool gas turbine engine without requiring a major disassembly of the entire engine particularly where the low shaft is "bottled" so that it cannot be removed axially from the engine, which means includes a tool adapted to fit between the narrow annular space between the shafts to torsionally couple the low rotor shaft and high rotor coupling nut, such that torquing the low rotor shaft uncouples the high turbine rotor.
