  • Patent number: 8972137
Abstract: A system and method for detecting that a four-wheel drive manual transmission vehicle is being operated in a manner that could cause a clutch over-speed problem. Upon detecting that the vehicle is being operated in the manner that could cause the clutch over-speed problem, the system and method activate a braking countermeasure to remove the potential problem. In addition, a fault code may be stored for subsequent diagnostic measures and/or a fault indicator may be used to alert the driver of the problem.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 27, 2012
Date of Patent: March 3, 2015
    Assignee: Chrysler Group LLC
Inventors: Edwin Moses, Loren M. Trotter
  • Patent number: 8843288
Abstract: A system and method of operating a vehicle at a driver selected target speed. The system and method configured to identify a target speed based on a position of a gear shift selector and control engine torque and brake pressure to control the vehicle to operate at the target speed. The system and method is further provides manipulating the engine torque and brake pressure of the vehicle in response to a driver's throttle and brake commands to operate at a speed desired by the driver.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 8831854
Abstract: A system mitigates shimmy of a wheel of a vehicle. The wheel is rotatable about an axis and is steerable by varying a steering angle of the wheel about a steering axis. The system includes a shimmy detection device that detects whether an oscillation/shimmy of the steering angle of the wheel occurs. The system also includes a brake that applies a braking load to decelerate rotation of the wheel about the axis. Furthermore, the system includes a controller that controls the brake to selectively apply the braking load to reduce the oscillation/shimmy of the steering angle of the wheel.

  • Patent number: 8121769
Abstract: Vehicle descent is controlled in at least one implementation by comparing an engine braking torque to a target engine braking torque, and controlling one or more vehicle brakes to maintain the engine braking torque substantially at the target engine braking torque. The target engine braking torque may be varied as a function of one or more factors or conditions, such as accelerator position or brake application pressure.

  • Patent number: 6570375
Abstract: A wheel speed sensor latch for securing a wheel speed sensor to a bearing cap of a vehicle speed sensing assembly. The latch includes a main body having a collar section adapted for receiving the wheel speed sensor therethrough. The latch further includes a pair of bifurcated legs extending from the main body. The pair of bifurcated legs being engageable with a pair of latching members formed on the bearing cap such that the pair of latching members and the pair of bifurcated legs cooperate to secure the wheel speed sensor on the bearing cap.
