Abstract: A method for practicing the application and placement of highlights to hair includes providing a non-permanent highlighting mixture preferably comprising white henna powder mixed with a liquifier such as hair conditioner, for example. The person uses the non-permanent highlighting mixture to practice their techniques and placement of highlights to their hair. The non-permanent highlighting mixture may be washed out or combed through the hair for a conditioning treatment. The practice highlighting mixture may be repeatedly applied to the hair with no permanent or adverse effects on the hair. Once the person is satisfied with their application technique and placement they may proceed to apply a permanent highlighting mixture to the hair.

Abstract: A hair coloring or highlighting application set includes a first strip of material having an adhesive allowing a user to attach the first strip to a section of hair which then hang loose while the user handles the colorant or bleach and brush. The user applies a colorant or bleach to the section of hair and overlays a second strip of material on the first strip of material. The second strip of material may by at least partly transparent and the target color may be applied to one side of the first strip of material to allow the user to easily determine when the hair section has achieved the target color.

Abstract: A method for hair coloring and selecting a hair colorant formulation based on hair type that minimizes variations in resultant hair color among different users having different hair types.
