  • Patent number: 5305384
Abstract: An encryption/decryption device, system and method for providing secure communication over a communication channel. The encryption device includes a radio interface unit connected to a conventional radio, wherein the interface unit selectively couples a codec, signal processor and modem to the transmit and receive path during secure operation. The codec digitally encodes non-secure analog signals and places them in pulse code modulated format. The signal processor then compresses the pulse code modulated signals into voice coded and then digitally encrypted NRZ signals which are then input into the conventional radio for modulating a carrier frequency on an occupied bandwidth approved for 15 KHz to 25 KHz, or as little as 11.4 KHz, spaced channels. The modem can input the digitally encrypted signals using modified frequency modulation to place the modified digitally encrypted signals substantially within the voice passband of 300 Hz to 3200 Hz.

  • Patent number: 5150401
Abstract: A communication system for providing secured communication over a communication channel. The system includes a DES encryption device and a DES decryption device retrofittable into or within a conventional radio unit. The encryption device receives analog input at the transmitter end of the radio and converts the analog signal to digital signal, then encrypts this digital data, modulates the encrypted digital data using modified frequency modulation (MFM) which is then sent over the communication path. During decryption, the apparatus receives MFM data from the communication path, demodulates this digital data, decrypts the data and then outputs this decrypted digital data to the interface unit. The interface unit contains both a transmitter and a receiver which is capable of half duplex operation. The interface unit also contains a voice coder and a voice decoder which are of the sub-band type.

  • Patent number: 5031643
Abstract: A rotary drum which serves to transport rod-shaped articles of the tobacco processing industry or sheet-like components of such articles has a peripheral surface which is formed with rows of axially parallel suction ports connectable to a suction generating device to attract the articles or their components to the peripheral surface of the drum. If the lengthh of rod-shaped articles is changed, or if the width of web- or strip-shaped components of articles is changed, the effective length of the rows of suction ports is changed accordingly to avoid unnecessary flow of air into non-overlapped suction ports.

  • Patent number: 4744453
Abstract: Apparatus for temporary storage of cigarettes has a collecting vessel with a lateral inlet for a mass flow of parallel cigarettes and with a vertical duct at the bottom for evacuation of a mass flow of cigarettes. The top portion of the vessel carries two pivotable flaps whose lower portions are connected with spaced-apart portions of a flexible membrane in the form of a wire mesh which rests on the supply of cigarettes in the vessel. That flap which is adjacent the inlet of the vessel is heavier than the other flap and carries the mobile portion of a level monitoring device serving to regulate the rate of admission and/or evacuation of cigarettes and/or to arrest the machine which makes the cigartettes.

  • Patent number: 4548113
Abstract: A device for perforating a web or sheet of material, includes a rotatable male die carrier roll having at least one radially extending cylindrical bore opening into its outer periphery, and a male die holder comprising a hollow cylinder having an outer diameter substantially equal to the diameter of the bore and being removably located within the bore. The outer and inner cylindrical surfaces of the hollow cylinder are substantially smooth, and the cylinder has a through slit extending in a radial direction completely between such surfaces and completely between opposite ends thereof. And, means are provided for applying an external force against the cylinder for frictionally holding a male die member in place therewithin, the slit in the cylinder permitting it to yield to such force supplying means.

  • Patent number: 4489534
Abstract: Apparatus for filling trays with cigarettes has a magazine which contains a supply of parallel cigarettes and the lower end portion of which extends into the interior of an empty tray so that the lower end portions of several vertical ducts in the lower end portion of the magazine are closely adjacent to the bottom wall of the tray. The tray is lowered continuously or stepwise while the ducts admit vertical streams or rows of cigarettes into the interior of the tray wherein the deposited cigarettes form superimposed layers with the cigarettes of each upper layer staggered relative to the cigarettes of the layer therebelow. This is attributed to the provision of horizontal shafts or horizontal tongues which flank the lower end portions of the ducts and are movable back and forth from neutral positions to effect a desirable distribution of descending cigarettes in the tray.

  • Patent number: 4257634
Abstract: A remote controlled door lock unit includes a motor for driving a worm gear having stop elements at its ends for abutment with a travelling nut; and having tangentially facing stop and counterstop surfaces. The axially moved nut drives the lock actuator. The motor is turned on via a time relay just to drive the nut from one to the opposite stop position.

  • Patent number: 4135377
Abstract: A system for locking the doors of a vehicle by central command includes a reversible motor driving a worm gear. A traveling nut operated by the worm gear engages a lock-actuating lever through an overload clutch. The overload clutch includes a cam and a cam follower. The cam has a normal central stable position bounded on either side by regions of neutral stability which permit override by small manually applied forces in case the motor or worm gear malfunctions. The system further includes a spring powered mechanism for unlocking the doors in the event of an accident. The spring powered mechanism is tripped electrically by an acceleration-sensing switch, and can be recocked by applying a relatively large force to a plunger located on the window sill.
