  • Patent number: 6863049
Abstract: An auxiliary valve positioned in an intake passageway of a four-cycle internal combustion engine for controlling the flow of air/fuel mixture into a combustion chamber includes a through passage, the through passage defined by a top wall, a bottom wall, and opposing side walls; a swingable door openable and closable in relation to the through passage; and a spring loaded assembly biasing the swingable door closed.

  • Patent number: 5806475
Abstract: A rocker arm assembly includes a stamped body comprising elongate, spaced plates with a pushrod engaging block at one end and a valve stem engaging roller at the other. A stud mounting block is located at about the midpoint of the body between the two ends. The pushrod engagement block has an off-center rod engaging recess so that it can be reversed to alter the operating ratio of the arm. The block also has an internal network of bores to facilitate reception of lubricant from the pushrod to flow into and through the block. The stud mounting block is bored so as to provide for the body of the rocker arm to be pivotally mounted on the stud, thereby reducing friction and heat buildup during operation.

  • Patent number: 5327858
Abstract: A flow restriction controlled variable engine valve system includes a housing slidably mounted in the engine housing and movable therein in response to movement of an engine cam. A sleeve is telescoped within the housing in fluid communication with the engine oil supply and a portion of the housing. A control rod is carried by the sleeve and projects into the aforementioned portion of the housing to restrict fluid flow therebetween. A check valve is carried by the housing and closes off the fluid communication between the housing and the sleeve after movement of the housing in response to cam movement to lock up the sleeve and housing for further movement together with the sleeve being operatively connected to the valve to open it upon further movement of the locked up sleeve and housing. A velocity reduction spring is interposed between the sleeve and the valve.

  • Patent number: 4483283
Abstract: A variable valve control system includes sensors for sensing internal combustion engine operating variables such as carburetor vacuum, intake manifold vacuum, etc., and translating such variables to control a piston in a hydraulic valve control mechanism so as to ultimately vary the valve action. The piston is positioned so as to control the hydraulic pressure acting on the top of an operating sleeve which, in turn, controls upward movement of a fulcrum to control rocker arm movement and, thereby, the opening of the combustion chamber intake valve. The system includes a pivotable rocker arm, one end of which is operatively connected to the camshaft by a cam follower and push rod and the other end of which is operatively connected to the intake valve. Variably positioning the hydraulic piston, and thereby the sleeve which acts on the fulcrum, controls the movement of the rocker arm.

  • Patent number: 4153016
Abstract: A variable control mechanism for regulating the opening of an engine valve during each cycle of operation is disclosed. The control mechanism essentially includes hydraulic restraint means which control the relationship between camshaft movement and valve opening in an operating train wherein rotary motion of the camshaft is translated into linear movement of the valve. One form of the invention includes a pivotable rocker arm, one end of which is operatively connected to the camshaft by a cam follower and push rod and the other end of which is operatively connected to the valve. Effective movement of the rocker arm to actuate the valve is controlled by a hydraulic system, including a movable sleeve the operation of which is controlled by varying hydraulic pressures so that by increasing or decreasing the hydraulic pressure the opening of the cylinder valve can be controlled.

  • Patent number: 3973177
Abstract: A system for controlling the speed of a direct current motor. The system employs a pair of breaker points for opening and closing the circuit containing the motor. By varying the frequency of contact between the breaker points and the period of time the points are in contact, different pulsations of current are transmitted to the motor to regulate its speed.
