  • Publication number: 20210358161
Abstract: A system and method for rendering terrain features and distance details on a display is disclosed. This includes a computer-implemented distance measuring apparatus integrated in an aerial stationary platform used for terrain scanning and a computer to control the operation and to display the organized and calculated data. The collected scanned data and the determining of terrain coordinates provides details that can be utilized during the broadcasting of a golf sporting event to highlight aspects of the contest. The rendering and the details can be superimposed on the camera video during the broadcast or be utilized by the event sport broadcasters as additional points that need to be highlighted during a player putting process.

  • Patent number: 11022681
Abstract: A system and method for rendering terrain on a display is disclosed. The system and method include a computer-implemented distance measuring system integrated in a drone to enable scanning of a terrain. The scanning may be performed from a given height. This results in the levels of the terrain which may then be rendered using a color scale. The rendering identifying the different levels may be superimposed over an image of the terrain, such as on a display, for example. By so doing, the superimposed terrain with the rendering provides the viewer of the display an enhanced view of the terrain. The system and method may be utilized when the viewer is watching the display, such as when watching golf and a player is about to putt on the putting green. The rendering may be removed once the putt is initiated.

  • Patent number: 9851434
Abstract: A computer-implemented method and a navigation system are described for guiding a visually impaired user to avoid obstructions and impediments while walking. The user may wear a plurality of subassemblies of the system. The tilt and rotation of the user's head may be monitored using one of the subassemblies worn on the user's head. Based at least in part on the tilt and rotation of the user's head, vertical and horizontal firing angles used by a distance measuring unit in each of the subassemblies may be calculated to transmit and receive laser signals to perform measurements. The user is then provided with navigation instructions and alarms based on whether an obstruction or an impediment is detected that is closer than a predetermined distance to the user while the user is walking based on the measurements.

  • Patent number: 8976028
Abstract: A system and method for tracking items are disclosed. The system and method include a computing device capable of near filed communication (NFC), and at least one tag coupled to each of at least one item, where the at least one tag is communicatively coupled to the NFC of the computing device using radio frequency (RF) signals. The coupling of the at least one tag to the at least one item enables the computing device to identify the at least one item and the distance from the at least one item to the computing device.

  • Patent number: 7039941
Abstract: In a cable television converter terminal, NICAM signal passthrough is achieved using an alignment-free passthrough circuit including a NICAM SAW filter. The alignment-free passthrough circuit directly taps the output of the converter terminal's tuner to obtain the NICAM signal. As a result, the NICAM signal is not distorted by the components involved in obtaining the other signal components of the cable television signal. Consequently, sound quality is improved and rendered less vulnerable to degradation due to component aging, temperature fluctuations, and human error. The passthrough circuit can be implemented as a removable circuit module.

  • Patent number: 6014547
Abstract: A system for use with a CATV settop terminal measures the input RF carrier signal power level at several frequencies within the CATV RF input bandwidth upon system power-up. The system utilizes these measurements to selectively equalize and process the RF input signal depending upon the carrier frequency selected and the desired signal level to be input to the RF tuner. The system refines the signal level by specifically measuring the signal level of the selected carrier frequency. The system further improves RF tuner performance by dynamically limiting the bandwidth input to the RF tuner depending upon the selected carrier frequency.

  • Patent number: 6013876
Abstract: A device and method provide an easy and inexpensive electrical connection between circuits on both sides of a printed circuit board. A through-hole is formed in the board with conductive copper pads around the periphery of the hole on both sides of the circuit board. A malleable, conductive plug is inserted through the hole and then deformed. The plug has a length and diameter such that when deformed, it completely fills the hole and makes a solid electrical connection with the copper pads on both sides of the circuit board. Circuits on both sides of the circuit board may be electrically connected to each other through the copper pads and deformed plug.

  • Patent number: 5874992
Abstract: A system for determining the quality of data received by settop terminals including at least one settop terminal which analyses each data packet received by the settop terminal and determines whether the received data packet includes errors. The bit error rate is continually calculated, monitored and stored. When the bit error rate exceeds a predetermined threshold, the settop terminal generates a warning signal for transmission to the headend, which diagnoses the problem. The cable system headend utilizes the results from a group of households that have the same problem in order to isolate the source of failure.
