  • Patent number: 6615287
Abstract: A self-identifying keyboard is provided with customization logic which allows the keyboard processor to assign a keyboard identification (ID) value. The keyboard processor is interconnected to a data channel interface adapted to communicate with a host system. The host system can send a query for the ID value, via the data interface, and the keyboard processor can retrieve the ID value from a non-volatile memory, and transmit it back to the host system via the data channel interface. This customization approach simplifies system integration, by letting the host system automatically learn the keyboard type. The ID value may indicate a particular language of the keyboard. At the time of final system assembly, the same host system, or another suitably programmed manufacturing system can be used to assign the keyboard ID, when it is known what language or other unique functionality is used in the end-user product.

  • Publication number: 20030051013
Abstract: A method for providing a provisioning key for connecting a computer to a computer network is disclosed. Initially, an order for an electronic device, such as a computer or a personal digital assistant, is placed by an user. The electronic device includes a network communication device capable of providing communication between the electronic device and a computer network. During the purchasing process, the user is prompted to answer a few questions. According to the answers given by the user, corresponding provisioning information for the network communication device within the electronic device is then generated. The provisioning information is stored in a portable medium that can be readily recognized by the electronic device. The portable medium is then delivered to the user.

  • Patent number: 6275199
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for displaying image and facsimile data on a host-based application display. A host computer generates control and download command data for displaying the image or facsimile data. The image and facsimile data is processed by a non-programmable-terminal (NPT) or a programmable work station (PWS) for presentation of a display screen. When a user requests another function, the NPT or PWS stores image information and sends image information to the host computer. The save image information includes cache image counter data, scaling and viewed image screen location data that is used to restore the displayed image and facsimile data when the user returns to the previous function. Both the user and host application can specify a foreground color and a background color for the image and facsimile data display.
