  • Patent number: 5702186
Abstract: A journal bearing is disclosed with shoe segments. Each shoe segment has a supply groove for even distribution of oil across the shoe surface during shaft rotation. The supply grooves have bleed vents that relieve pressure build-up in the supply groove by bleeding oil out of the supply groove in a substantially circumferential direction. Directing oil in this way prevents the pressurized oil from impinging on any nearby seals and provides enhanced temperature profile characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5161951
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for preventing axial movement of a disc along the shaft on which it is shrunk. The apparatus features a set of arcuate retainers having one portion disposed in a circumferentially extending groove in the disc face and another portion disposed in a circumferentially extending groove in the shaft outer surface. The retainers are installed by inserting them one at a time into an entry slot in the disc adjacent the groove. The last retainer is a locking retainer and is attached to a closure piece by locking screws threaded into two holes drilled at the intersection between the closure piece and locking retainer so that one half of the circumference of the hole is formed in the closure piece and the other half of the circumference of the hole is formed in the locking retainer.

  • Patent number: 4686403
Abstract: A dynamoelectric machine has rockable pedestal journal members to support the rotor. The rockable journal members ride on spherical buttons to permit movement. A lower bearing shell supports the rockable members within an outer housing. A key is provided in channels between the lower bearing shell and the outer housing which may be easily removed. Shims may be placed on top of the key as desired to effect positioning of the rotor.
