  • Patent number: 4386229
Abstract: Internal olefins such as those obtained from a disproportionation of 1-olefins like 1-decene are dimerized over a promoted boron trifluoride catalyst to yield oils useful as lubricant basestock.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 1, 1981
Date of Patent: May 31, 1983
    Assignee: Phillips Petroleum Company
Inventors: Louis F. Heckelsberg, William T. Nelson, Sidney Schiff, Ernest A. Zuech
  • Patent number: 4319064

  • Patent number: 4317948
Abstract: A mixed olefin feedstock obtained from disproportionating C.sub.8 to C.sub.18 1-olefins can be used as such for a dimerization process to produce branched hydrocarbons that are useful as lubricating oils or greases.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 21, 1980
Date of Patent: March 2, 1982
    Assignee: Phillips Petroleum Company
    Inventor: Louis F. Heckelsberg
  • Patent number: 4159970
Abstract: Alkanes are catalytically converted employing a catalyst comprising at least one alkaline earth oxide together with a promoting amount of manganese oxides and/or rhenium oxide. When the catalyst is treated with an oxygen-containing gas, such as air, prior to contacting the alkanes conversion by cracking is favored. When the catalyst is treated with hydrogen prior to contacting the alkanes dehydrocyclization is favored. A composition of matter is disclosed suitable for use as a catalyst for converting alkanes.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 3, 1978
Date of Patent: July 3, 1979
    Assignee: Phillips Petroleum Company
