  • Patent number: 4090435
Abstract: A ventilator for use with sheet metal roofing either of the batten type using elongated pan sections or flat sheets. In a preferred form of the invention using sheet metal pan sections between battens, the pan sections are lap-joined at the ridge of the roof and a ventilator opening is cut in the overlapped end portions of the pan sections and in the underlying roof on either side of the ridge of the roof. The base member of the ventilator is formed from a single sheet of metal and has a central opening coinciding with the opening in the pan section. The edge portions of the central opening in the base member of the ventilator are upturned to form side walls defining the ventilator opening and a screen is fitted into the opening. Downwards of the ventilator opening, on each side of the ridge of the roof, the lower edge portions of the base member are folded back on themselves in curved form to form wind breakers extending between battens of the pan sections.

  • Patent number: 4079561
Abstract: Metal roofing shingles including triangular shaped gable and eave starting shingles and square or rectangular shaped shingles covering the main body of the roof, the shingles being laid in courses whereby their edges run at an angle from the gable ends and eave edges upwards towards the ridge of the roof and under a ridge cap. Each of the shingles is secured to the underlying roof structure by a roofing nail passing through the uppermost corner of the shingle. The lowermost edges of the shingles are interlocked over and under the uppermost edges of adjacent shingles and have their lowermost corners overlapping the uppermost roofing nail secured corner of adjacent shingles. The edges of the triangular shaped shingles adjacent to the gable ends and eave edges of the roof are folded under and inwards in locking engagement with folded protruding edges of gable and eave starter lengths of formed sheet material which have been secured to the gable end and eave edges of the underlying roof structure.

  • Patent number: 4058950
Abstract: A roofing system of the batten type using sheet metal components only. The battens are of channel section having bottom and side walls, with the side walls having spaced apart extensions at their upper edge, folded inwards to lie in a plane parallel with the plane of the bottom wall. Each of the battens is disposed on an underlying wooden roof structure and secured thereon in spaced apart parallel arrangement of screws passed through the bottom wall of the battens. Pan sections are disposed between the battens and have side walls in contact with the side walls of the battens. Extensions project from the upper edges of the pan section side walls, some of which are folded over the top edge of the side walls of the battens and others of which lie over the inwardly folded extensions of the side walls of the battens and have portions thereof folded under the said inwardly folded extensions to interlock the pan sections with the battens.

  • Patent number: 4034530
Abstract: A roofing system of the batten type using sheet metal components with wooden or metallic batten supports. With the batten supports in place elongated pan sections are laid between the batten supports and secured to the roof by nails or screws at the top or near the top of the adjacent batten supports. Each pan section has a wide flat elongated central region which lies flat on the roof and which is centrally located between two similar upstanding side walls running the full length of the central region and fitting between two successive battens. Each side wall has an inner, downwardly directed double fold running along the side of the adjacent batten support and terminating short of the central region. A batten covering cap having a centrally located top and downwardly directed wings each with an inner upwardly folded edge fitting behind the double fold is positioned in place by sliding it longitudinally over the associated batten support.

  • Patent number: 4014152
Abstract: A roofing system of the batten type using sheet steel components formed of elongated pan sections. Each pan section has a wide flat elongated central region which lies flat on the roof and is centrally located between upstanding side walls running the full length of the central region. One side wall is formed of a single walled structure, while the other parallel side wall is formed of a partial rectangular inverted channel wherein the sheet metal is folded back on itself to provide a double wall thickness to the channel, and the marginal edge of the sheet metal is projected outwardly beyond the outermost wall of the double walled structure and in planar alignment with the central region of the pan section and adapted to be fastened to the roof by fasteners located at spaced intervals along its length.
