  • Publication number: 20100186788
Abstract: An umbrella includes a central post consisting of multiple tubular segments telescopically connected to each other. A crown set at an upper end and carrying an upper pulley and a runner slidably fit over the central post and carrying a lower pulley. A pulley cable has an upper section extending around the pulleys and fixed to the crown and a lower rigid section carrying a fixer that is movably receive in a handle and forms locking slots engageable by a switch control device. A spring is arranged between the crown and the fixer to apply a spring force to maintain the umbrella in an open condition. Each tubular segment of the central post has a lower end to which a protection sheath is mounted for finger protection.

  • Patent number: 7588041
Abstract: An umbrella includes a runner slidably engaged onto a central shaft for coupling to a whale bone device, a tubular member slidably engaged onto the central shaft and having an upper portion secured to the runner, a handle attached to the tubular member, and a controlling device for controlling the handle to move along the central shaft in order to fold the whale bone device either to the compact folding position or to the open working position and for allowing the umbrella to be effectively actuated or operated by the users. An anchor member is engaged into the central shaft and has a catch for anchoring the tubular member and the runner to the central shaft at different locations.

  • Publication number: 20080149152
Abstract: An umbrella includes a central stick, a crown disposed on top of the stick, a slider slidably attached onto the central stick, an uneven canopy having a front portion shorter than two side portions of the canopy, and a rear portion longer than the side portions of the canopy, and a whale bone device for coupling the canopy to the central stick and for supporting the canopy on the central stick. The whale bone device includes one or more front strut assemblies for supporting the shorter front portion of the canopy, one or more side strut assemblies for supporting the side portions of the canopy, and one or more rear strut assemblies for supporting the longer rear portion of the canopy.

  • Patent number: 6941960
Abstract: A runner lock device for umbrella includes a retainer attached onto an outer peripheral portion of a central post, a barrel slidably engaged onto the central post and having an opening to receive the retainer and to latch the barrel to the retainer and to the central post. A sleeve is slidably engaged onto the barrel and has an actuator arranged to engage with the retainer and to disengage the retainer from the barrel when the sleeve is moved relative to the barrel. The retaining device may be easily secured onto the central post, and no holes are required to be formed in the central post, and no spring members or latches are required to be engaged into the central post.

  • Patent number: 6655398
Abstract: An umbrella includes a number of strut assemblies each having a beam and a spring rod pivotally coupled between a strut and a rib. The spring rod includes a middle portion slidably coupled to the beam. A pole is slidably secured to the beam and coupled to the middle portion of the spring rod. For example, the pole includes an aperture for receiving the middle portion of the spring rod and for allowing the middle portion of the spring rod to be loosely coupled to the beam and for preventing the spring rod from being bent or damaged by the beam.
