  • Patent number: 5801150
Abstract: Synthetic compounds combining sulphur-containing or sulphur-free amino acids with aminopyrimidine and aminopyridine derivatives, as well as mineral or organic acid addition salts produced in the presence of an amino grouping, were synthesized. Non-sulphur amino acids such as glutamic acid, pyroglutamic acid, tyrosine, histidine and arginine, and sulphur amino acids such as methionine, cysteine, S-methyl-cysteine and cystine, were attached to minoxidil to give monosubstituted and disubstituted derivatives. The amides with a pyrimidine or pyridine structure coupled to an amide structure in which the carbonyl is from sulphur-containing or sulphur-free amino acid have the properties of; (1) excellent adhesion to the skin, particularly the epidermis; (2) capturing free radicals, in particular the superoxide anion and the hydroxyl radical; (3) selectively relaxing smooth muscle fibers; and (4) in vitro and in vivo keratinocyte growth, hair growth in humans, and fresh and accelerated fur growth in animals.

  • Patent number: 4766894
Abstract: This invention relates to the monitoring of the correct operation of a respirator with single source of energy constituted by a cylinder of pressurized oxygen, to which is annexed a device for connection to a patient. Such monitoring is effected with the aid of a pneumatically operating device which comprises a comparator with adjustable threshold, connected to the mask for connecting to the patient and followed by an amplifier whose output signal takes the binary logic level 1 during the time when the insufflation pressure in the mask is greater than said threshold, and takes the other binary logic level 0 in the opposite case, and a circuit for processing this signal, which triggers off an alarm device if the duration of the time intervals when this latter is at level 1 is too long or too short with respect to a predetermined normal value.

  • Patent number: 4537190
Abstract: The stopping or starting of the respirator (1) is controlled by a module (11) receiving, from a capnograph (8), an electric signal representing the CO.sub.2 content of the gas passing through a CO.sub.2 analysis cell (6) fixed to the exit of the intubation tube, inserted after tracheotomy, of a patient under assisted respiration. It is the CO.sub.2 content which determines the starting or stopping of the assistance by the respirator.

  • Patent number: 4380233
Abstract: A control device for an artificial respirator includes a timebase circuit (B) on which the frequency F=1/T and the ratio I/E of the inhalation to exhalation times are selected, a mixer (M) on which the total gas supply volume and the proportion of oxygen are selected, and two control signal generators (G.sub.O, G.sub.A) for operating two solenoid-controlled valves (EV.sub.A, EV.sub.O) for the air and oxygen. It is possible to select each one of the four variable parameters independently of all the others.
