  • Patent number: 5153802
Abstract: For a preset period following application of a closing order, the semi-conductor of the static power switch, supplied with DC voltage, is controlled by a regulating circuit so as to operate as a current generator limiting the current to a value much lower than its rated value. A fuse acts as measuring shunt. The switch can comprise a circuit breaker function. In this case, the fault detection circuit measures the voltage at the terminals of the semi-conductor and supplies an opening signal when this voltage exceeds a preset threshold.

  • Patent number: 5132865
Abstract: A circuit breaker comprises a static switch electrically connected in series with a disconnecting switch having an operating mechanism with a handle to close and open a system of main contacts. A voltage sensor ocmprises an electromagnet with a moving core capable of occupying an active locking position and an inactive unlocking position of the mechanism, respectively in the on state and in the off state of the switch. Opening of the disconnecting switch is inhibited if voltage is present on the output terminals.

  • Patent number: 5089974
Abstract: A building power management controller comprises a plurality of modules connected by a two-wire network. Each module comprises a data transceiver device, controlled by a microprocessor to both transmit data to the other modules and to a central unit via the two-wire network, and to receive information via this two-wire network. The modules are supplied with power by the two-wire network. When two modules transmit simultaneously, one takes priority so as not to disturb the messages transmitted.

  • Patent number: 4943691
Abstract: A current limiter comprises an extinguishing chamber 16 of small volume, in which there are housed a pair of contacts 28, 30 and an insulating shield 40, capable of moving to an active position inserted between the contacts 28, 30, and of subdividing the chamber 16 into two parts each of which contains one of the contacts 28, 30. The movement of the insulating shield 40 to the inserted position between the contacts 28, 30 is favored by the action of a piston 48 subjected to the pressure prevailing in the extinguishing chamber 16.

  • Patent number: 4768007
Abstract: The device comprises a solid-state switch and a pair of mechanical contacts electrically connected in series. The solid-state switch is housed in a compartment towards the rear of the moulded case of the device, in thermal contact with an external metal plate. The solid-state switch housing is separated by an insulating partition from the remaining part of the moulded case, which contains the contacts, their operating mechanism, the arc chute and the trip unit. The power terminals and control terminals of the solid-state switch are located on the small side faces of the case on either side of the movement plane of the movable contact, which extends parallel to these small side faces.

  • Patent number: 4751605
Abstract: The present invention relates to a display device for a digital trip device associated with a current breaking device. The trip device comprises apparatus for entering operating parameters and apparatus for measuring the current in the breaking device, these two apparatuses being coupled with a first microprocessor comprising memory areas in which the parameters and measurement data are entered. The display device is of the portable type, able to be coupled temporarily with the trip device, and comprises: an alphanumerical display, a second microprocessor comprising memory areas, apparatus associable with complementary apparatus in the trip device to transfer the contents of the memory areas of the trip device to the memory areas of the display device, these contents then being able to be displayed selectively by the reader during or after the temporary coupling.

  • Patent number: 4725911
Abstract: The circuit breaker-contactor includes a circuit breaker part with mechanical contacts and a contactor part with mechanical contacts connected in series. A solid-state switch is connected in parallel to the contacts of the contactor part. A control unit controls the solid-state switch and the contactor part, in such a way as to close the circuit when the potential difference passes zero by conduction or interrupting the solid-state switch. The mechanical contacts perform only current conduction by shunting the switch in normal operation. The contacts of the circuit breaker part have associated with them an arcing electrode and a shunt circuit disposed to draw the arc, as soon as the contacts open, and to shunt the solid-state switch and contactor part mechanical contacts assembly.

  • Patent number: 4531172
Abstract: The invention relates to a miniature circuit breaker having remote control capabilities. The protection function of the circuit breaker is ensured by a magnetothermal release cooperating with an operating mechanism to induce the opening of contacts. The remote control function of the circuit breaker results from the presence of a triac connected in series with the contacts and the release. The creation or breaking of the rated current occurs by conducting or locking the triac without activating the mechanism. The triac is automatically short-circuited when the arc is switched on a lower horn during the cut-off phase following the appearance of a fault current detected by the release.
