  • Patent number: 10385800
Abstract: A cylinder head assembly includes a cylinder head having an igniter mount that forms a portion of a fireside surface of the cylinder head. The assembly further includes a sleeve abutting the igniter mount within an igniter bore in the cylinder head, such that the sleeve and the cylinder head together form an igniter cooling passage circumferential of the igniter mount, and extending axially between the sleeve and the cylinder head. The configuration of the igniter mount and sleeve improves heat dissipation and reduces likelihood of pre-ignition in an internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 9556844
Abstract: A nozzle for a member of a fuel combustion system of an engine includes a hollow nozzle body. The nozzle body includes an outer surface, an inner surface, and an orifice surface. The outer surface defines an outer opening. The inner surface defines an interior chamber and an inner opening. The orifice surface defines an orifice passage extending between, and in communication with, the outer opening and the inner opening. The orifice passage is in communication with the interior chamber via the inner opening. The orifice surface includes a boundary surface and a protrusion. The protrusion projects from the boundary surface radially inwardly into the orifice passage.

  • Publication number: 20160169153
Abstract: A piston for an internal combustion engine includes a piston body forming a crown portion and a skirt portion. The skirt portion includes a pin bore and forms two guide surfaces. The crown portion forms a cylindrical surface having at least two grooves defining a top land surface and a bottom land surface. A ratio between a height of the top land surface and a nominal inner diameter of a bore in which the piston is configured to operate is between 3% and 4.5%. Further, the pin bore has a diameter that extends entirely within the respective heights of the two guide surfaces along the centerline of the piston such that the skirt portion fully supports the piston.

  • Publication number: 20160169152
Abstract: A piston includes a piston body forming a crown portion and a skirt portion, the crown portion forming a bowl surrounded by a flat crown surface having an annular shape and disposed along a plane, the bowl and the flat crown surface meeting along a rim of the bowl having a generally circular shape. A generally cylindrical surface surrounds the crown portion and forms at least two grooves that define top and bottom land surfaces. The top land surface has a height along a centerline of the piston, and the piston has a nominal outer diameter configured to reciprocally operate within a bore having an inner diameter such that a ratio between the height of the top land surface and the inner diameter of the bore is between 3% and 4.5%.
