    Abstract: An improved seaming chuck in an apparatus for attaching a cup shaped end member to the body member of a container by a seaming process. The chuck has a recess about its peripheral edge surface for accommodating excess material during the seaming process. The recess also has a varying depth for varying the dimension of the portion of the seam within the recess and preventing relative rotation of the seaming chuck with respect to the container end member during the seaming process.
