  • Patent number: 10524958
Abstract: An apparatus for reducing intraocular pressure is provided. A tube extends from an inlet end in fluid communication with an anterior chamber of the eye, to direct an aqueous humor flow from the anterior chamber to an outlet end in fluid communication with a cavity, defined by a housing, for receiving the aqueous humor. A proximal end of an elongate tubular member defining a longitudinally-extending channel is engaged with the housing such that the channel is in fluid communication with the cavity and such that a distal end of the tubular member is spaced apart from the housing, wherein the channel is configured to receive the aqueous humor from the cavity and to direct the aqueous humor through the distal end to a drainage site disposed distally to the anterior chamber and to the housing. An associated method is also provided.

  • Patent number: 10342702
Abstract: An apparatus for reducing/stabilizing intraocular pressure is provided. A tube extends from an inlet end in fluid communication with an anterior chamber of the eye, to direct an aqueous humor flow from the anterior chamber to an outlet end in fluid communication with a cavity, defined by a housing, for receiving the aqueous humor. A flow control device is operably engaged with the housing, and is configured to control the flow of the aqueous humor, via a conduit defined thereby and extending from the cavity, to a location away from the anterior chamber. The conduit is dilatable in response to the intraocular pressure being above a preselected pressure, to increase the flow or to decrease resistance to flow of the aqueous humor through the conduit to the drainage site and to reduce the intraocular pressure to no greater than the preselected pressure. Associated apparatuses and methods are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20180311075
Abstract: A system and associated method for reducing pressure are provided. The system includes a pressure-reducing device having an inlet tubular member defining an inlet port and adapted to engage a pressurized chamber having a fluid therein, and an outlet tubular member having a distal end defining an outlet port being adapted to extend to a surface external to the pressurized chamber. The pressure-reducing device channels the fluid to the surface external to the pressurized chamber via the outlet port. The system also includes manipulation tools configured to adjust one or more channels defined by the outlet tubular member to regulate a pressure within the pressurized chamber, the length of the one or more channels being proportional to the flow resistance imparted to or the backpressure on a fluid flowing from the inlet port to the outlet port by at least the outlet tubular member.

  • Publication number: 20080058779
Abstract: A method for changing at least one biological property of a biological tissue, the method having the steps of providing a biological tissue having at least a first layer; evaluating the topography, biomechanical and fundamental properties of the biological tissue by layer; and orienting a matrix complex in the biological tissue, wherein the matrix complex has matrices that are balanced in a mathematical relationship, wherein each of the matrices comprises a perforation formation in the tissue, and wherein the mathematical relationship comprises a mathematical algorithm.

  • Publication number: 20060189915
Abstract: An intraocular drainage apparatus for treatment of glaucoma, a device to be used in the insertion of the drainage apparatus, and a method of controllably regulating intraocular pressure in glaucoma patients through the use of the drainage apparatus is described herein. The drainage apparatus is comprised of a tube capable of conducting fluid disposed between an inlet assembly, where aqueous humor enters the apparatus, and an outlet assembly, where aqueous humor exits the apparatus. The inlet assembly is comprised of a beveled tip and preferably an anchor. The beveled tip allows the drainage apparatus to be more easily inserted into an eyeball and the anchor, when employed, functions to hold the beveled tip of the inlet assembly within the anterior chamber of the eyeball.
