  • Patent number: 5259932
Abstract: According to the invention the heating system for regenerative coke oven batteries that can be heated with rich gas and/or lean gas or mixed gas is provided comprising vertical flues cooperating in pairs, each vertical flue being connected to a regenerator for preheating the air and, in the case of lean gas operation, for preheating the lean gas or mixed gas. High and low combustion stages, as well as structure defining an internal flue gas return at levels above a flue base are provided. Discharge openings are provided at at least three levels for supplying each flue. A base discharge opening is provided at the flue base directly connected to regenerators. Hollow communicating channels are defined for connecting the regenerators to discharge openings located above the flue base. The hollow communicating channels are preferably formed in each communicating wall connected to a discharge opening leading only to one adjacent flue.

  • Patent number: 4713148
Abstract: The invention relates to a light construction plug for coke oven doors of horizontal chamber coking ovens, consisting of box-like, heat-resistant, metallic hollow bodies which are secured on the door body and can be filled with insulating material of low specific gravity. According to the invention, it is provided that in the longitudinal direction of the chamber, between the door body (1) and the chamber filling (5), one or more detachably interconnected hollow bodies (6, 7) are arranged and that for the formation of vertical gas pressure equalizing channels (10) between the chamber walls (11) and the hollow bodies (6, 7) the lateral outer walls (8, 9) thereof have concavities directed inwardly toward the center of the chamber.

  • Patent number: 4296938
Abstract: An immersion type seal for a standpipe opening of a coke oven comprises a standpipe which has a top part with top opening and an encircling rim around the opening which is closed by a standpipe lid and an annular seal frame interposed between the lid and the opening. The seal frame includes a lower peripheral edge which is of spherical shape which is seated on a ring disposed over the rim of the standpipe top opening and the seal frame is advantageously adjusted on the seating ring and clamped by means of tie rods which are disposed at spaced locations around the periphery of a flange portion of the seal frame. The tie rods are clamped between flanges of a top piece of the standpipe and the standpipe itself and the flange of the seal frame. The seal frame also defines an open top trough which defines a water seal and the standpipe lid includes an annular wall portion which extends into the trough.

  • Patent number: 4265709
Abstract: A device for separating gases and solids, particularly coal dust, during the carbonization of coal, particularly predried and preheated fine coal in coke ovens arranged in a battery which includes a standpipe extending upwardly from the top of the battery having a bend extending from the top of the standpipe downwardly into a collecting main, comprises, a vertically extending standpipe which extends upwardly from the top of the battery and has a bend at the top thereof extending outwardly and downwardly from the top and which includes a longitudinally extending collecting main connected into the lower end of the bend with a solids discharge line overlying the bend and extending substantially parallel to the collecting main. The solids matter discharge line includes a connection extending downwardly into the bend. Means are provided for spraying a liquid into the bend over the collecting line and the solids matter discharge line includes a shutoff control in the connection to the bend.
