  • Patent number: 5612849
Abstract: A hair dryer is provided which reduces static electricity in hair being dried. A point source for electron release, such as a needle, is positioned in a reflector in the air stream of the dryer. The point source is electrically connected to an electron source, such as a piezoelectric crystal, located in the handle of the hair dryer. The piezoelectric crystal is wired to produce an electric charge, the charge being initially a negative electric charge. The crystal is connected to the point source and thus provides electrons to the point source. These enter the air, ionizing air molecules, and the resulting ions are carried to the hair, neutralizing the static charge in the hair. The piezoelectric crystal, a supporting frame, a lever arm, and an arm lever cover are mounted in the dryer handle. The lever arm cover can be pivoted, resulting in the lever arm being moved when the handle is squeezed or released. Release of the lever arm results in it returning to its original position.

  • Patent number: 5520909
Abstract: A hair relaxant and process in which water-soluble disulfides are added to water-soluble mercaptans, used as reducing agents, to shift the equilibrium point of the relaxer toward the reactants sufficiently such that the relaxant will not cause damage to the hair. The ingredients are carried in a viscous creme base, and there is an absence of sulfite and bisulfite salts. This is followed by rinsing and the use of an oxidizing neutralizer. The process is carried out in the absence of added heat.

  • Patent number: 5441729
Abstract: Post permanent wave hair odor is reduced by treating the hair fiber with an aqueous bicarbonate/carbonate salt solution and then with an acidic aqueous solution. After allowing sufficient time for this lotion to penetrate the fiber, the acidic aqueous solution is directly applied to the fiber so that a reaction with the bicarbonate/carbonate salts occurs. This reaction results in the formation of gaseous carbon dioxide. Evolution of this gas from deep within, as well as the surface, of the fiber serves to release any trapped volatile malodorous mercaptans and byproducts.

  • Patent number: 5350572
Abstract: An entirely new class of reducing agents with substantially enhanced beneficial results is attained by employing polyoxyethyleneglycol dimercaptoalkylester compounds in a permanent waving lotion. This new class of reducing agents are water soluble, non-volatile and provide a substantially reduced malodor effect. Furthermore, by employing the dithiol compounds of the present invention as the reducing agent, long lasting hair conditioning and enhanced physical attributes, such as shine, luster, softness, manageability, and hair thickness, are also realized.

  • Patent number: 5241973
Abstract: By providing a composition for use with a conventional keratin reducing agent which comprises at least one mono or dimercaptopolyoxyethylene compound, a substantially improved and enhanced permanent wave is attained which provides a substantially increased long-lasting and durable hair set retention, as well as enhanced hair conditioning, sheen and manageability. In the preferred embodiment, the composition of the present invention is employed either as a post treatment after the application of a conventional hair keratin reducing agent or as an additive in the conventional reducing formulation. Furthermore, the preferred mono or dimercaptopolyoxyethylene compound employed preferably comprises a molecular weight ranging between about 200 and 800.

  • Patent number: 3941801
Abstract: 2-(P-Fluorophenyl)-1-alkyl or 1-(2'-hydroxyalkyl)-5-nitroimidazoles are prepared by reacting a dialkoxy-carbonium salt, or a 1,3-dioxolenium salt, respectively, with 2-(p-fluorophenyl)-1-alkoxymethyl-4-nitroimidazole. The compounds prepared are useful in the control of enterohepatitis in poultry, especially in turkeys.
