  • Patent number: 7242747
Abstract: A method for determining a weight per unit area and/or a chemical composition of a conveyed material sample. From the analysis of a portion of an incident ionizing radiation, in particular an X-radiation, scattered from a material sample, a detector signal corresponding to the gsm substance and/or the chemical composition of the material sample is generated and used for determining the weight per unit area and/or the chemical composition of the material sample. A device for determining a weight per unit area and/or a chemical composition of a material sample has a compact measurement head arranged unilaterally with respect to the material sample. This measurement head includes an X-radiation source and a detector arrangement integrated into the measurement head of at least one X-ray detector connected to a voltage supply and an evaluation unit.

  • Patent number: 4760945
Abstract: A conveyor belt controller for controlling the variations in the lateral position of a running conveyor belt comprises a regulated stretch of conveyor belt having a guide member, particularly a guide roller, at one end, a controllable guiding mechanism able to laterally displace the conveyor belt when the conveyor belt is shifted from a correct position, and at least one video camera observing the lateral motion of the conveyor belt whose electrical image signal is convertable by a computer into a controlling command for the guiding mechanism. The video camera is mounted upstream from the guide member spaced approximately a distance equal to the length of the regulated stretch. An indicating member is provided in the image field of the video camera for the actual position of the guiding mechanism extending transversely to the guiding mechanism. Advantageously, the indicating member is provided with an indicator light source which is pulsed for more sensitive detection.

  • Patent number: 4758716
Abstract: An apparatus for recognizing identifications elements provided on moving carriers includes a reader having a reading head and an evaluating or analyzing logic. The carrier which is advanced past the reading head is provided with at least one identification field including a pattern of marks which are made of phosphorescent substance. By being exposed to light emitted from a light source, the identification marks phosphoresce and are read by the reading head after the exposure has taken place.

  • Patent number: 4673803
Abstract: Identification marks in the form of code fields are arranged on a material band which is adapted to be moved in a continuous manner. These identification marks are recognized by a reader head with a subsequent evaluating logic, whereby under conditions of signal flow produced by the reader head on passing of the code field at the evaluating logic, this signal flow is transformed into identification marking corresponding to the respective code field. Each code field is preceded by a starter label which produces a start signal causing the release of the initially blocked signal flow between the reader head and the evaluating logic and actuates a switch component to assume a transmitting condition. On completion of the signal flow transformation into the identification marking, the signal flow ceases due to actuation of the switch component.

  • Patent number: 4330909
Abstract: An elongated knit web is flattened and guided by an apparatus having a support frame which extends longitudinally in a plane and which has an upstream and a downstream end. A pivot supports this frame for pivoting about a pivot axis transverse to the plane at the upstream end. A pair of transversely extending and longitudinally spaced spreader rollers are provided on the frame adjacent the upstream end and each has a pair of screwthread formations of opposite hand, these spreader rollers being driven to spread out the web transversely. A pair of transversely extending and longitudinally spaced guide rollers are provided on the frame between the spreader rollers and the downstream end, these guide rollers being freely rotating and having surfaces which are made to adhere to the web to prevent its edges from curling up. A control system pivots the frame about its pivot axis to position the edges of the exiting web.

  • Patent number: 4329838
Abstract: A twisted textile web is detwisted by continuously withdrawing the web from a supply and passing the web longitudinally along a path and over a curved deflecting surface formed by a roller that deflects the web and divides the path into an upstream leg and a downstream leg that are out of alignment with each other. The deflecting surface can pivot about a pivot axis which passes through a pivot located to the upstream side of a straight line passing through the center of curvature of the deflecting surface and angularly equispaced between the legs. In a central position of the deflecting surface the two legs, the surface, and the pivot are all coplanar so that a twist in the web will pivotally deflect the surface in a direction depending on the direction of twist. The extent of pivoting is detected and the web is detwisted in the upstream leg in response to the detected pivoting of the surface.

  • Patent number: 4325897
Abstract: An assembly at an extruder for controlling the width of a two-layer web flattened from a tube extruded from a rotating or oscillating head of the extruder comprises monitors for detecting the velocity and edge-positions of the web upon transport thereof away from the extruder. A control circuit calculates the deviation of the actual web width from a predetermined width and emits a correction signal relayed via a stationary infrared-radiation transmitter and a receiver on the extruder head to valves controlling the pressurization of the extruded tube by a blower also mounted on the extruder head.
