Publication number: 20240147365Abstract: Electronic devices may be provided with wireless circuitry having an antenna, a primary receiver, and a secondary receiver. The primary receiver may be coupled to the antenna over a first signal path having a low noise amplifier. An input of the primary receiver may be coupled to the first signal path and an input of the secondary receiver may be coupled to a node on the first signal path over a second signal path. The primary receiver may consume more power and exhibit more linearity than the secondary receiver. The secondary receiver may wake while the primary receiver is asleep and may wake the primary receiver when paging signals are received. If desired, the wireless circuitry may be switched between a single-receiver mode and a receiver diversity mode based on wireless performance metric data gathered by the primary receiver and/or the secondary receiver.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 26, 2023Publication date: May 2, 2024Inventors: Wassim El-Hassan, Abhinav Dayal, Andrea Ruaro, Brian H. Publication number: 20240089949Abstract: User equipment may transmit and receive wireless signals to and from communication networks. However, in close proximity, transmission signals from a first user equipment may interfere with wireless signals received by a second user equipment. In certain instances, the user equipment may establish a session via peer-to-peer technologies and coordinate timing for communication with the networks. For example, the user equipment may establish a sidelink having a frequency different from a frequency used for communication with the networks. The user equipment may prioritize communication to a first communication network over a second communications network or vice versa. The user equipment may also designate a network connector and relay communication with the networks through the network connector. Additionally or alternatively, the user equipment may share the task of determining a global position. Accordingly, the user equipment may reduce or eliminate signal interference and preserve battery power.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 14, 2022Publication date: March 14, 2024Inventors: Anatoliy S. Publication number: 20230093484Abstract: User equipment (UE) applies a first code division multiplex access (CDMA) code to a baseband signal to generate a first signal, and a second CDMA code to the baseband signal to generate a second signal. The UE then transmits the first signal to a receiving device via a first antenna, and the second signal to the receiving device via a second antenna. The receiving device receives the first and second signals as a combined signal at an antenna, and extracts the first signal from the combined signal using the first CDMA code, and extracts the second signal from the combined signal using the second CDMA code. The CDMA codes may be real-valued or complex-valued. In some embodiments, the UE may separate the baseband signals into first and second portions, and transmit the first portion as part of the first signal and the second portion as part of the second signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 22, 2022Publication date: March 23, 2023Inventors: Daniel Popp, Lydi Smaini, Anatoliy S. Publication number: 20220190954Abstract: A user equipment device (UE) may communicate according to a new device category satisfying specified QoS (quality of service) requirements while also satisfying specified link budget requirements, and additional optimization requirements. The UE may use physical channels and procedures (e.g. it may receive and decode control channels) in a manner compatible with and not infringing on the operation of other UEs operating in the same network, while allowing the network more flexibility to assign resources. Specifically, resources for EPDCCH on UE-specific SS and EPDCCH on common SS may be shared. That is, the resources for two search spaces may be overlaid partially or in full, giving the network more flexibility in allocating resources. Furthermore the DCI formats for MPDCCH may be extended to devices operating according to the new device category, which enables the coverage enhancement of MTC for these devices.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 3, 2022Publication date: June 16, 2022Inventors: Awais M. Hussain, Tarik Tabet, Lydi Smaini, Moustafa M. Elsayed

License assisted access communication with dynamic use of request-to-send and clear-to-send messages
Patent number: 11070985Abstract: This disclosure relates to performing cellular communication in unlicensed spectrum in a manner that accounts for the possible existence of hidden nodes by opportunistically introducing the use of RTS and CTS messages. A listen-before-talk procedure may be performed to determine whether a wireless medium is available. When the listen-before-talk procedure is complete, an amount of time until a next possible start time for communicating in the cellular communication system according to a timing synchronization scheme for the cellular communication system may be determined. The wireless medium may be occupied until the next possible start time for communicating in the cellular communication system in a manner selected based at least in part on the amount of time until the next possible start time for communicating in the cellular communication system. Cellular communication may be performed on the wireless medium at the next possible start time for communicating in the cellular communication system.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 2020Date of Patent: July 20, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Farouk Belghoul, Lydi Smaini, Tarik Tabet, Syed Aon Mujtaba -
Patent number: 11064366Abstract: A wireless communication device may conduct first wireless communications over a first frequency band according to a first radio access technology (RAT), and may detect second wireless communications conducted over the first frequency band according to a second RAT while the wireless communication device is conducting the first wireless communications. The wireless communication device may then adjust characteristics and/or parameters associated with the first wireless communications based on the detected second wireless communications. In a specific example, a wireless communication device conducting Wi-Fi communications in the 5 GHz band may detect cellular communications (e.g. LAA/LTE-U communications) also conducted in the 5 GHz band while the wireless communication device is conducting the Wi Fi communications.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2019Date of Patent: July 13, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Farouk Belghoul, Lydi Smaini, Tarik Tabet, Syed Aon Mujtaba

Patent number: 11044635Abstract: A wireless communication device (UE) may monitor grants received from respective cells associated with one or more first (e.g. licensed) frequency band(s) and one or more second (e.g. unlicensed) frequency band(s). Based on the received grants the UE may determine if an imbalance exists in the radio resource allocation, whereby the UE communicates more than intended in the second frequency band(s). The imbalance may be specified with respect to the ratio or portion of the communications that are conducted in the second frequency band(s) with respect to all wireless communications of the UE. If the UE detects an imbalance, it may transmit a report to the network (e.g. to the base station serving the UE) indicating unfavorable conditions for the UE to be operating in the second frequency band(s). In response, the network may disable the respective cell(s) associated with the second frequency band(s) and/or it may disable carrier aggregation for the UE.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2019Date of Patent: June 22, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Farouk Belghoul, Lydi Smaini, Tarik Tabet, Syed Aon Mujtaba

Patent number: 11044594Abstract: In a method of device-to-device communication, a user device initially sends an emergency message repeatedly at a first repeating frequency. When a specified number acknowledgement (ACK) messages are received, the user device sends the emergency message repeatedly at a reduced repeating frequency. The repeating frequency may be further reduced when more ACK messages are received.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2018Date of Patent: June 22, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Sanjeevi Balasubramanian, Shiva Krishna Narra, Tarik Tabet, Dhruv Khati, Lydi Smaini, Anjaneyulu Maganti, Mohit Narang, Tiberiu Muresan
