  • Patent number: 5611684
Abstract: A mixing unit for mixing gaseous fuel and combustion air includes a fuel supply chamber adapted to receive a supply of fuel, an air supply chamber adapted to receive a supply of combustion air, and a manifold separating the air supply chamber and a transfer conduit which is adapted to deliver the fuel-air mixture to a burner. The manifold is formed with air ports establishing communication between the air supply chamber and the transfer conduit such that multiple streams of combustion air flow through the manifold and into the transfer conduit. The manifold is further formed with fuel supply cavities which communicate with the fuel supply chamber and which alternate with the air ports in the manifold. Multiple fuel ports connect each air port with the adjacent cavities such that multiple sets of oppositely directed jets of fuel mix with the combustion air as the combustion air flows through the manifold.

  • Patent number: 4963089
Abstract: An industrial burner in which gaseous fuel is supplied to a mixing and combustion zone within a burner body by way of a conical distribution manifold formed with annular rows of gas discharge ports. A separate passage for pilot gas is formed through the manifold and terminates as an isolated pilot port which discharges a jet of pilot gas for establishing a pilot flame uses to ignite the main gas. Combustor plates surround the gas manifold and are formed with air passages which are so angled and so located as to form canopies of air jets over the fuel jets, the air jets intersecting each other at a significant distance from the center line of the burner.

  • Patent number: 4437415
Abstract: A burner block for an industrial furnace is resiliently seated in a hollow annular member, the latter being made of a metal such as stainless steel and the burner block being made of a refractory material. Because of the resilient mounting, the burner block is seated firmly in the annular member even though these two parts have different rates of thermal expansion. In addition, a cooling fluid is circulated within the interior of the annular member to cool the latter so that the furnace may operate at a temperature which is well above the temperature at which the annular member loses its structural integrity. All of this permits the burner block assembly to be mounted effectively on the metal outer shell of the furnace without relying upon the refractory lining of the furnace for support.

  • Patent number: 4403947
Abstract: A gas mixing line burner having a stoichiometric turndown ratio in the range of between twenty-five and thirty to one and capable of operating at a capacity of about 2,000,000 BTU/HR per lineal foot of burner. The burner includes an air/fuel manifold having a discharge face which causes combustion air jets to mix with fuel jets and form a main combustible mixture which is provided with a constant ignition source by virtue of stabilizing air jets interacting with the fuel jets and creating a secondary combustible mixture down the center of the main mixture. One embodiment of the burner includes a combustion chamber which is formed by refractory material while the combustion chamber of an alternative embodiment is formed by stainless steel sections connected by expansion joints which prevent warpage of the sections.

  • Patent number: 4062343
Abstract: A tube has one end portion supported within an opening in a heat-insulating wall and is fired by a dual fuel burner. Disposed within the one end portion of the tube is a combustion sleeve which extends the flame of the burner inwardly beyond the wall and thereby prevents the insulated end portion of the tube from being burned out. An abrupt restriction is formed at the discharge end of the combustion sleeve and creates turbulence in the air/fuel mixture to promote cleaner and more efficient burning.
