M. Arnaout has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Publication number: 20070021917
Abstract: The invention features the structural coordinates of a portion of a ?V?3 integrin and the use of the coordinates in methods for identifying molecules which will bind to ?V?3 integrin and, preferably, modulate, e.g., increase or decrease, ?V?3 integrin-mediated adhesion and/or signalling. The identification methods generally involve computer-based structural modelling methods. Such methods can be combined with in vitro or in vivo screening methods to identify candidate therapeutic agent.

  • Publication number: 20060142548
Abstract: The methods described herein provide for ways of modulating, specifically inhibiting, integrin activation. The methods include identifying compounds such as naturally occurring and non-naturally occurring polypeptides and small molecules which bind to the ?A domain of an integrin thus mimicking the contact between the CD loop with ?A domain. Contacting the ?A domain in this manner locks the integrin such that it is unable to be activated.

  • Publication number: 20050227296
Abstract: The invention features methods for identifying compounds capable of inhibiting the binding of a selected integrin to a selected ligand which naturally binds the selected integrin.

  • Publication number: 20050114109
Abstract: The present invention relates to structure-based methods for identifying molecules which will bind to the ?A-lacking integrin ?V?3 receptor extracellular domain and modulate function, e.g., by acting as receptor agonists, such as agonists that induce some or all of the biological responses induced by the ligand Arg-Gly-Asp-(D-Phe)-(N-methyl-Val), although the methods are not limited to the identification of this particular class of agonist. The invention also provides a computer for producing a three-dimensional representation of a molecule or molecular complex, wherein said molecule or molecular complex comprises a binding pocket defined by structure coordinates of Table 1 or Table 2. In addition, the invention provides a crystal comprising an integrin IVJ3 extracellular domain alone or complexed with a cyclic RGD peptide as defined by the structural coordinates of Table 1 or Table 2.

  • Patent number: 6711520
Abstract: Method and apparatus for accessing a block data storage device through a computer network to carry out remote diagnostic operations. The data storage device includes a data storage medium, a host interface port, a serial communication (COM) port and a programmable controller with associated platform firmware and associated diagnostic firmware. A client computer and a server computer are connected to a computer network, and the data storage device is connected to the server computer via the host interface port. The server computer is used to transmit a first command to cause the controller to execute the platform firmware, while the client computer is used to transmit a second command to the COM port of the data storage device to cause the controller to concurrently execute the diagnostic firmware to monitor operation of the platform firmware.

  • Patent number: 6694281
Abstract: Method and apparatus for remote data acquisition from a block data storage device having a data storage medium, a host interface port, a serial communication (COM) port and a programmable controller with associated platform firmware and associated diagnostic firmware. A client computer and a server computer are connected to a computer network (such as the Internet), and the data storage device is connected to the server computer via the host interface port. A data acquisition device such as a disk drive analyzer having digital oscilloscope capabilities is connected to the server computer and the data storage device. Requests from the client computer are transmitted via the network to result in a first command to the data storage device to execute the platform firmware and a second command to capture a waveform signal from the data storage device. The waveform signal is transmitted real time for display by the client computer.
