Abstract: A system for obtaining information concerning automobiles, their registration data, and/or primary drivers or owners, at a distance is provided. The system includes a tag, embedded within or affixed to the vehicle license plate that remains dormant until activated. The tag is activated upon receiving a signal from a transmitter/receiver and communicates an EIN (electronic identification number) back to the transmitter/receiver. After transmitting the EIN, the tag returns to its dormant state to conserve power. The transmitter/receiver sends the EIN to a requesting police officer and/or to a central computer terminal where the information is utilized, such as for accessing a database.
