  • Publication number: 20060123570
Abstract: A power appliance, such as a power toothbrush, is adapted for limited time trial use, but otherwise has the operational functionality of a conventional long-term use product. The power appliance is responsive to a communication from an enabling device to enable long-term of the appliance following receipt of payment from the user.

  • Publication number: 20050092554
Abstract: The system comprises a product package which has a front side and an opposing rear side, designed to form two related but different front panels. Both panels include a picture of the product and key information about the product, presented in a similar, complementary format and appearance. Trademarks have a similar position and format on both panels, such that the second front panel (the rear side) presents an overall complementary appearance to the first front panel (the front side).

  • Patent number: 6274085
Abstract: A method and a device for optically ascertaining the mutual binding of a first and a second reactant are described. Use is made of the fact that a dipolar layer (7) having a non-linear optical behavior is formed upon a reaction between the two reactants. The formation of such a layer is ascertained by illuminating the substance with radiation (8) having one or two frequencies, and by detecting whether radiation (10) from the substance contains a component at a frequency which is twice the frequency, or a mixed term of the frequency of the radiation incident on the substance.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 10, 1999
Date of Patent: August 14, 2001
    Assignee: U.S. Philips Corporation
Inventors: Robertus W. J. Hollering, Maarten Barmentlo

  • Patent number: 5802749
Abstract: The recharging time for reheating the soleplate of an iron can considerably be reduced by accumulating energy from an energy supply, e.g. the mains, in a stand for the iron and by transferring this energy to the iron when the iron is attached to the stand. The iron is reheated very quickly, e.g. by exchanging cooled down liquid from the iron with hot liquid accumulated in the stand every time the iron is put back in the stand.
