  • Patent number: 10094336
Abstract: A turbine exhaust system including a bypass fluid duct that includes: an outer exit shroud and an inner mold line (IML) forming a channel from an inlet to an outlet of the bypass fluid duct, a moveable diffuser configured to move between a forward and aft locations, and a door configured to pivot between minimum and maximum door angles, wherein the moveable diffuser and the door together form the outer exit shroud. The bypass fluid duct is configured to: receive an incoming fluid stream in a first direction through the inlet; bypass the incoming fluid stream around a turbine generator; and direct a flow path of the incoming fluid stream from the inlet through the outlet to join an ambient fluid flow. A movement of the door and the diffuser, from an unextended position to a fully or partially extended position varies a shape and volume of the channel.

  • Patent number: 9958638
Abstract: A high performance kinematic mirror mount facilitating the reduction of thermally and mechanically induced optical distortion of a precision mirror is disclosed. The mirror mount assembly includes a mirror with a front reflective surface and a rear support surface. A set of sub-tier mounting assemblies are provided being affixed to the rear support surface of the mirror utilizing a number of strut pairs and a number of bonded mount pads arranged so as to connect the sub-tier mounting assemblies to the mirror with numerous strut pairs arranged as bipods.

  • Patent number: 9823459
Abstract: A triangular frame metering structure includes three side beams and three end pieces each connected between two of the side beams. Each end piece top and bottom is configured for connection of support loads, with all support loads connecting to the metering structure at the top or bottom of one of the end pieces. Secondary mirror focusing mechanisms mounted on the end piece tops support pairs of secondary mirror struts. Strut mounts on the end piece bottoms provide connections to pairs of primary mirror struts, base struts, and instrument struts. All support loads connected to the metering structure are thus connected only to the corners of the metering structure and are connected at a same radial distance from a central longitudinal axis. The metering structure has reduced mass with high stiffness for supporting large aperture telescopes.
