Publication number: 20210189217Abstract: Methods and compositions for reducing gas seepage into a cement slurry. One method includes adding a formulation to the cement slurry, the formulation comprising at least one component responsive to a predetermined concentration of hydrocarbon gas in the cement slurry, where upon the cement slurry reaching the predetermined concentration of hydrocarbon gas, the hydrocarbon gas undergoes at least a partial oxidation caused by the formulation to quicken the setting time of the cement slurry via release of heat by an exothermic reaction.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 3, 2021Publication date: June 24, 2021Applicant: Saudi Arabian Oil CompanyInventors: Herschel Foster, Mahmoud Alqurashi, Shrikant Tiwari

Patent number: 11021915Abstract: A completion system for running in a directional wellbore includes a plurality of tubular members mechanically secured in-line to form a production tubular. One or more isolation packers are positioned in-line with the tubular members. A lower completion guide is located at a downhole end of the production tubular and a hanger assembly located at an uphole end of the production tubular. One or more of the tubular members includes a flexible pipe joint having: a base multilayered flexible tubular member; a first weave layer, the first weave layer being helically wrapped in a first direction around an outer diameter of the base multilayered flexible tubular member; a second weave layer, the second weave layer being helically wrapped in a second direction around an outer diameter of the first weave layer; and an outer tubular layer.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2018Date of Patent: June 1, 2021Assignee: SAUDI ARABIAN OIL COMPANYInventors: Herschel Foster, Mahmoud Alqurashi

Patent number: 10961807Abstract: Methods and systems for isolating a loss circulation zone of a subterranean formation includes lowering a drill string having a tubular member from a surface into a subterranean well and securing a packer assembly to the tubular member, the packer assembly having an inflatable packer unit and a protective sleeve. The protective sleeve is in an extended position and circumscribes the inflatable packer unit and the inflatable packer unit is in a deflated condition. A stabilizer body is secured to the tubular member downhole of the packer assembly. The stabilizer body is shaped to centralize the packer assembly and direct debris traveling uphole in a direction radially outward of the packer assembly. The protective sleeve is moved from the extended position to a retracted position. The inflatable packer unit is inflated to an inflated condition, forming a seal with an inner diameter surface of the subterranean uphole of the loss circulation zone.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2018Date of Patent: March 30, 2021Assignee: SAUDI ARABIAN OIL COMPANYInventors: Herschel Foster, Ossama R.
