Patent number: 7796034Abstract: A method and system for controlling lighting in a space reduces energy consumption of the light sources by changing at least one of the color rendering index (CRI) and the correlated color temperature (CCT) while maintaining illumination levels. Preferably, the method and system sense movement of people in the space relative to light sources that light the space, and automatically and individually adjust plural solid state lighting devices that form each of the respective light sources to a first lighting condition when people are in a first position, wherein the lamps respectively emit light of a first illumination level and a first CRI at a first electrical power level, and to a second lighting condition when people are in a second position, wherein the light sources respectively emit light of the first illumination level and a smaller CRI than the first CRI and at a lower electrical power level than the first electrical power level.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 2009Date of Patent: September 14, 2010Assignee: Osram Sylvania Inc.Inventors: Joseph Laski, Makarand H. Publication number: 20010053082Abstract: An electroluminescent vehicle lamp made with a lens plate, a back plate, electroluminescent sheet, first electrical connector, second electrical connector is disclosed. The lamp has decreased volume and weight due to its small thickness. The electroluminescent vehicle lamp provides a vehicle signal lamp with a small thickness that is otherwise conformal with the surface of a vehicle. A particular advantage of the lamp structure is that the vehicle body needs only minimal forming to accommodate the positioning of the lamp, and little interior space in the vehicle is required. Two or more color regions can be formed in one housing. Two different states of appearance such that the device can exhibit a bright operating color (red, yellow, etc.) and yet blend in with the rest of the vehicle exterior in the non-operating mode.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 1999Publication date: December 20, 2001Inventors: MAKARAND H. Patent number: 6035098Abstract: A scent-bearing ring adaptable for at least semi-permanent engagement with the neck of an incandescent bulb that generates both light and heat. The ring comprises an annular body having an inner layer formed to engage the bulb neck and an outer layer containing a scent or vapor-releasing agent actuable by heat. The inner layer is formed from a moldable material at least capable of resisting without substantial damage the heat generated by the bulb when the bulb is operated in a base-down position and capable of transferring the heat to the outer layer, the outer layer being moldable and porous.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1999Date of Patent: March 7, 2000Assignee: Osram Sylvania Inc.Inventors: Makarand H. Patent number: 5336370Abstract: A method of preparing an electrically insulating polymer substrate, particularly those containing an aromatic group, for the reception of an electrically conductive pattern, said substrate having a glass transition temperature or a softening temperature, comprises the steps of: performing a first cleaning of the substrate; heating the substrate in a nitrogen atmosphere for about 3 hours at a temperature of about 20.degree. C. below the glass transition temperature or the softening temperature of the substrate; cooling the substrate to room temperature; roughening the surface of the substrate by, for example, etching said substrate in a chromic acid-containing solution for about 3 minutes at a temperature of between 65.degree. C. and 70.degree. C.; and performing a second cleaning and drying of the substrate.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1993Date of Patent: August 9, 1994Inventors: Makarand H. Chipalkatti, Elizabeth A.
