  • Publication number: 20190197967
Abstract: A projection-type display device includes: a reflection-type spatial optical modulation unit having movable reflection elements; a light source unit; and a control unit that controls the reflection-type spatial optical modulation unit and the light source unit. The control unit divides each frame of a displayed image into a display period during which the light source unit emits light and a non-display period during which the light source unit does not emit light. The control unit further divides, among a plurality of sub-frames forming the frame, each of display sub-frames included in the display period into division display sub-frames. The control unit causes at least one of the light emitting elements of the light source unit to emit light for each of the display sub-frames, and sets respective inclined states of movable reflection elements for each of the division display sub-frames.

  • Publication number: 20180364474
Abstract: Provided is a display device capable of reliably moving a micromirror to a parking position when operation is stopped. A head-up display device drives a DMD element on the basis of electric power from a battery power supply. The head-up display device is provided with: a DMD controller for performing control of the DMD element on the basis of the electric power from the battery power supply; a voltage monitoring circuit for monitoring the voltage of the battery power supply; and a backup power supply for supplying power to the DMD controller as a backup of the battery power supply. When the voltage of the battery power supply which has been monitored by the voltage monitoring circuit falls to or below a threshold value, the DMD controller moves the DMD element to the parking position on the basis of the electric power from the backup power supply.

  • Publication number: 20180246324
Abstract: A display device includes: a control unit that causes any one of light sources to emit light, each of the light sources emitting light of a different color, generates illumination light of a color from the light emitted from the light sources, using a field-sequential method in which the light sources for emitting light are switched in sequence, and reflects toward a screen, through a reflection unit, the light that corresponds to the display image from among the illumination light; a temperature detection unit for detecting the temperature of a display element; and a temperature adjustment unit for adjusting the temperature of the display element. The control unit stops supplying current to the light sources and supplies current at a first current value only to the temperature adjustment unit when the detected temperature is within a low-temperature or high- temperature non-displayed range of the display element.

  • Patent number: 9830864
Abstract: Provided is a field sequential image display device with which the service life of DMD display elements can be lengthened. In the present invention, each frame is equipped with: a display period, wherein a display control portion normally drives multiple mirrors and a lighting control portion drives a first lighting portion and a second lighting portion, thereby displaying a display image in display elements; and a non-display period, wherein the display control portion drives the multiple mirrors for a non-display period and the lighting control portion turns off the first lighting portion and the second lighting portion, and thus the display image is not displayed in the display elements. On the basis of prescribed luminance control conditions, when the luminance of the display image is to be lower than a predetermined threshold luminance value, a control unit lowers the display period ratio, which is the ratio of the display period in each frame period.

  • Patent number: 9818206
Abstract: A display device includes: a display means that displays a virtual image of a picture by projecting display light representing the picture on a windshield; an identification means that identifies a target outside the vehicle; a control means that causes a first captured image, visually recognized as being superposed on at least a part of the target, to be displayed in the picture; and a vibration detection means that detects the amount of vibration of the vehicle. The control means, when the amount of vibration detected by the vibration detection means exceeds a threshold value, causes a second captured image to be displayed instead of the first captured image. The second captured image is an image of which a color shade difference between pixels configuring an image end and a region outside the image and adjacent to the image end is decreased compared with the first captured image.

  • Publication number: 20170098400
Abstract: The purpose of the present invention is to enable light having a desired light intensity to be outputted in a broad brightness range spanning from low to high brightness, even if light intensity characteristics of light sources have been changed. Light sources emit inspection light of a fixed output and image light of an output based on an image signal. A light-branching unit branches the light from the light sources. A light detection unit detects the light intensity of reflected light branched by the light-branching unit. A signal conversion unit converts a first detection signal from the light detection unit, and outputs the resultant signal as a third detection signal. A main control unit inputs the third detection signal, and controls the output of the image light on the basis of the third detection signal. A refresh unit refreshes the third detection signal inputted to the main control unit.

  • Publication number: 20160335959
Abstract: A light intensity detection signal indicative of the intensity of light emitted by a light source is acquired, and on the basis of the light intensity detection signal and a set reference signal, a comparison circuit generates a comparison signal indicative of turning ON and OFF. Within a sub-frame period, a logic circuit repeats turning ON/OFF based on a pulse signal inputted from the comparison circuit, and outputs a lighting signal for causing the light source to emit light in accordance with the reference signal which is a set value, and outputs a non-lighting signal for causing the light source to not emit light in accordance with a set value.

  • Patent number: 9459452
Abstract: Provided is a display device for a vehicle that can, in a configuration in which the cost of parts is curbed, quickly raise the temperature of a laser light source (LD) in a low temperature environment, and quickly perform stable image output. The LDs (11, 12, 13) emit laser light (RGB) and an MEMS mirror (30) scans the laser light (RGB) and generates a display image (M). A convex mirror (70) reflects display light (L) indicating the display image (M) in an external direction via a translucent light-transmitting unit (90). An LD driving means (101) emits laser light (RGB) to the LDs (11, 12, 13) when the temperature is low, and causes the LDs (11, 12, 13) to perform self-heating driving for raising the temperature of themselves.

  • Patent number: 9373285
Abstract: Provided is a display device for a vehicle such that the life of display elements can be made long even when used in a high temperature environment and, further, unpleasant sensations due to changes in brightness of display images can be prevented. A control unit (90) provides a display period (Fa) in which an illumination control unit (91) turns on light sources (11), and a display control unit (92) generates a display image (M) in display elements (30) within a frame (F) that constitutes the display image (M) on the basis of a display image signal and a non-display period (Fb) in which the illumination control unit (91) turns off all light sources (11). When the display control unit (92) changes the display period proportions (A) for mirrors (E) for the display elements (30) according to prescribed conditions, drive currents (I) and drive periods (H) for the light sources (11) are changed simultaneously such that brightness is not changed.

  • Patent number: 9081184
Abstract: A head-up display device and a self-checking method therefor are provided, which are able to suppress the direct output of a laser beam to outside. A reflecting means reflects an image generated by a scanning means and projects the image outside of a case, and an angle-adjusting means adjusts the reflecting means to a desired angle. After the ignition switch of the vehicle is turned on, a light-emitting means outputs a scanning laser beam, and the value of the current flowing to the light-emitting means is detected, or a first light intensity, which is the light intensity of the scanning laser beam, is detected. For a period extending at least from the output of the scanning laser beam by the light-emitting means to the establishment of a predetermined condition, the angle-adjusting means is controlled such that the reflecting means is set to a non-visible position at which the scanning laser beam is reflected inside the case.
