  • Patent number: 5670975
Abstract: A method for driving a gas discharge display panel consists of the steps of applying a writing pulse on a specific display electrode line selected from display electrode lines arranged side by side in the panel, applying a scanning pulse on a specific scanning electrode line selected from scanning electrode lines which are arranged side by side and cross the display electrode lines to produce writing gas discharge in cooperation with the writing pulse in a specific discharge cell arranged at an intersection space between the specific display electrode and the specific scanning electrode line, and applying a series of maintaining pulses subsequent to the scanning pulse on the specific scanning electrode during only a maintaining period to produce maintaining gas discharge subsequent to the writing gas discharge in the specific discharge cell, the maintaining gas discharge being intermittently produced in synchronism with the maintaining pulses.

  • Patent number: 5410219
Abstract: A method for driving a plasma display panel comprising a plurality of first electrodes disposed in parallel with each other, a plurality of second electrodes disposed in parallel with each other and perpendicular to the first electrodes, the second electrodes having a plurality of blocks, and a driving means to apply pulses to the second electrodes, wherein the different electrodes belonging to the different blocks are successively scanned in the predetermined order. Alternatively, the different electrodes may be scanned by repeating applications of pulse to a second electrode belonging to a certain block and to a second electrode belonging to either of the adjacent blocks.

  • Patent number: 5368940
Abstract: A carbon composite material reinforced with a carbon fiber and an inorganic fiber. The composite material has a core formed of a carbon fiber-reinforced carbon composite comprising a carbon fiber reinforcement and a carbon matrix, The core is externally covered with an inorganic fiber-reinforced carbon composite comprising an inorganic fiber reinforcement, other than carbon, and a matrix composed either of carbon alone or a mixture of carbon and boride. This provides for sound and steady protection against oxidation, as well as for retention of high strength in an oxidizing atmosphere at high temperatures.

  • Patent number: 4927345
Abstract: The invention relates to a press cylinder for a high-temperature, high-pressure pressing machine for use in sinter molding ceramics, hard metals, and the like. An outer casing constructed of a carbon fiber reinforced carbon composite and an inner casing constructed of a heat resistant material are fitted together. The inner casing is formed with a longitudinally extending slit which meets given conditions. A gap which meets given conditions is formed between the outer casing and the inner casing. Because of the presence of the slit and the gap, no substantial stress is liable to be exerted on the outer and inner casings which are different in thermal expansion coefficient. Therefore, the outer and inner casing are not liable to fracture or plastic deformation.
