Patent number: 10792777Abstract: A method and apparatus for changing pallets delivered to a machining center. Different workpieces are connected or attached to different pallets. A first workpiece corresponding to a first pallet is delivered to or near an indexer or indexer assembly and the indexer is moved into an engaged position and performs a work operation on the first workpiece. The indexer is then moved to a disengaged position and the first pallet and the first workpiece are exchanged or switched out with a second pallet having a second workpiece. The indexer is then moved to an engaged position and works the second workpiece and when completed, the indexer moves to the disengaged position and the second workpiece is exchanged or switched out with a third pallet having a third workpiece. The indexer system of this invention can quickly and cost-effectively cycle through different pallets and thus different workpieces.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2018Date of Patent: October 6, 2020Assignee: MIDACO CORPORATIONInventors: Michael Paul Cayley, Sr., Malcolm E. Patent number: 9016930Abstract: An apparatus for swirling wine within a wine glass or a decanter, or for moving a liquid within a container. A driver is mounted to move a driving element with respect to a housing. A base for holding or removably attaching the glass, the decanter or the container, is moveably mounted with respect to the housing. A receiver and a connector are moveably mounted with respect to each other and with respect to the housing. When the driver moves the base, the base and thus the container follow a path defined by movement of the connector with respect to the receiver. When the glass, the decanter or the other container is mounted with respect to the base, the base moves the glass, the decanter or the container to impart a swirling motion of wine or another liquid within the glass, the decanter or the container.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2008Date of Patent: April 28, 2015Assignee: Metal Shapes, Inc.Inventors: Michael Paul Cayley, Sr., Malcolm E. Patent number: 7975998Abstract: A pallet changer and a system and a method for using the same attach, secure and/or connect a part and/or pallet assembly to a receiver assembly for machining the part. A groove and/or a pull post of the pallet assembly is insertable between a first wedge arm and a second wedge arm in an interior of the receiver assembly. Springs within the interior of the receiver assembly exert forces against the first wedge arm and the second wedge arm to maintain the first wedge arm and/or the second wedge arm in a first position within the interior of the receiver assembly. A key and/or a cam moves and/or rotates to move the first wedge arm and/or the second wedge arm from the first position to a second position. A first tapering on the pallet assembly engages and/or corresponds to a second tapering on the first wedge arm and/or the second wedge arm to secure and/or to attach the pallet assembly to the receiver assembly in the second position.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2006Date of Patent: July 12, 2011Assignee: Midaco CorporationInventors: Malcolm E. Publication number: 20080067035Abstract: An automated pallet changer for detachably attaching a pallet with respect to a machine table or a frame, particularly of a 5-axis machining center. The automated pallet changer can attach and/or detach a pallet with respect to the frame. A keeper element is movable with respect to a base of the receiver, between an engaged position and a disengaged position. In the engaged position, the keeper interferes with a least a portion of the pallet to fix the position of the pallet with respect to the machine table. The automated pallet changer according to this invention can be used to eliminate the need for electrical cables, pneumatic lines, hydraulic lines and the like on a conventional 5-axis machining center.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 1, 2006Publication date: March 20, 2008Inventors: Malcolm E. Patent number: 6634621Abstract: A lifting device for lifting and moving objects with minimal effort and a method for using the same is provided. The lifting device has a cable attachable to an object and a handle on the cable. Sensors in the handle may sense vertical pressure exerted on the handle and may put out a current to a variable-speed motor in a housing of the lifting device. The motor may release or may retrieve the cable at a speed dependent upon the amount of pressure applied, thereby raising or lowering the object. Pressure of three to five pounds is sufficient to lift any object. The operator may move the object in any direction up to a radius determined by the length of the cable from the object to the housing. The housing may have an upper portion that may slide forward relative to a lower portion. Consequently, this lengthens the radius of movement allowed to the operator.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2001Date of Patent: October 21, 2003Inventor: Malcolm E. Keith

Patent number: 6464068Abstract: The present invention provides a screw assembly apparatus and a method of using the same. More specifically, a screw assembly apparatus is provided having a carriage attached to a nut assembly and a dog for engaging a workpiece. The carriage runs along the length of a screw within a carriage guide that may surround the nut assembly thereby protecting the nut assembly from debris and contamination. An opening may be contained within the carriage guide for the carriage to extend therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2000Date of Patent: October 15, 2002Assignee: Midaco CorporationInventor: Malcolm E. Patent number: 6308815Abstract: A rotatable pallet changing apparatus, a system and a method are provided in which the rotatable pallet changing system has a rotatable bed having a first pallet and a second pallet side-by-side and set on tracks. A first and a second workpiece may be set upon a first pallet and a second pallet, respectively. As the first pallet with the first workpiece is drawn into a machining center to be worked upon, the second workpiece may be added to the second pallet. When the first workpiece on the first pallet is finished being worked upon, it is withdrawn from the machining center and placed upon the rotatable bed. The rotatable bed then rotates, allowing the second pallet to be fed into the machining center and further allowing the first workpiece to be off-loaded from the first pallet.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1999Date of Patent: October 30, 2001Assignee: Midaco CorporationInventor: Malcolm E. Patent number: 6193048Abstract: An automatic pallet changer system in an automatic machining center has a first track for receiving a first pallet having a first workpiece thereon, and a second track for receiving a second pallet having a second workpiece thereon. The first and second tracks are side-by-side and extend from a region outside the enclosure to a region inside the enclosure adjacent the receiver. A linear drive unit is arranged between the first and second tracks and has a carriage which moves along a longitudinally extending carriage guide. The carriage has a member for engaging with the first or second pallet depending upon whether the linear drive unit is rocked to the left or to the right. A motor is connected to the linear drive unit for causing a movement of the carriage along the carriage guide. A rocker unit is connected to the linear drive unit for rocking the linear carriage unit to the left or to the right.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 1998Date of Patent: February 27, 2001Assignee: Midaco CorporationInventor: Malcolm E. Patent number: 5492214Abstract: A control for moving a pallet relative to first and second base plates including four carriages that are rotatably supported on the second base plate by second rollers and which can be moved by pistons that are mounted in cylinders that are attached to the second base plate. The first plate has downwardly extending members formed with slanted slots and each of the four carriages have first rollers received in the slots so that as the pistons are moved in the cylinders the first base plate and the pallet are raised and lowered relative to the second base plate. Third rollers are mounted between the pallet and the first base plate so that they are movable relative to each other.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1993Date of Patent: February 20, 1996Assignee: Midaco CorportionInventor: Malcolm E.
