  • Patent number: 5407560
Abstract: A novel process is disclosed by which petroleum cokes and cracked oil can be produced by thermal cracking of a heavy petroleum oil to which a rare earth metal compound is added. The process produces petroleum cokes with an improved combustibility and promotes the yield of cracked oil at the same time.

  • Patent number: 4643813
Abstract: A process for producing an alkanesulfonic acid is described, which comprises causing sulfur dioxide and oxygen to act on a saturated hydrocarbon under illumination with light in a substantially water-free reaction system, wherein photo-sulfoxidation of the saturated hydrocarbon is performed as a reaction mixture in the reaction system is held in contact with sodium sulfite.

  • Patent number: 4257778
Abstract: A process for producing a synthetic coking coal of high volatile matter content by thermal cracking of a heavy hydrocarbon through the delayed coking process comprising heating said heavy hydrocarbon in a furnace to a temperature between about 380.degree. C. and 500.degree. C. and sufficient to initiate cracking; introducing said heated heavy hydrocarbon into a coking drum where it is maintained at a temperature and for a time sufficient to effect cracking to thereby produce a thermally cracked residue having a volatile matter content of from about 25 to 45 wt % and a Gieseler fluidity of at least about 50,000 ddpm; withdrawing said thermally cracked residue from the coking drum at a temperature selected so as to satisfy the relation:T.ltoreq.0.293x.sup.2 -26.12x+790where T is the temperature (.degree.C.

  • Patent number: 4061472
Abstract: A raw synthetic caking coal having a volatile matter content of 20 - 70%, H/C (atomic ratio) of 0.60 - 1.20 and a maximum fluidity of greater than 40 ddpm is produced by coking heavy hydrocarbons. Synthetic caking coal having a volatile matter content of 20 - 40%, H/C (atomic ratio) of 0.60 - 0.75, a maximum fluidity of greater than 40 ddpm and a Free-Swelling-Index of greater than 3 is produced from the raw synthetic caking coal by stripping said raw synthetic caking coal with steam or light hydrocarbons.

  • Patent number: 4036736
Abstract: Synthetic coking coal is produced by coking heavy hydrocarbons at a temperature greater than the temperatures which initiate cracking in the coker, and by removing the gaseous and liquid products from the coker at accelerated velocities. The thermally cracked oil produced in the coking reaction can be hydrodesulfurized to produce a low sulfur fuel oil.
