  • Patent number: 6545203
Abstract: A front lid opening and closing assist which enables an easy and safe operation of opening and closing a front lid of a keyboard instrument. A buffer in the front lid opening and closing assist has a first damping mechanism for damping the front lid when pivoted from a neutral position to an open position, and a second damping mechanism for damping the front lid when pivoted from the neutral position to a closed position. When the front lid is pivoted beyond the neutral position, it spontaneously pivots toward the open or closed position by its own weight. However, this motion is damped by the first and second damping mechanisms, which results in a slowed pivot motion of the front lid. As a result, a user can safely open or close the front lid relative to a back lid, with only minimal force for supporting the front lid.

  • Publication number: 20020035913
Abstract: A keyboard device for a musical instrument is provided for reducing or eliminating weights made of lead, which are attached to a key, to reduce the weight of the musical instrument and to adapt for the environmental problem, as well for allowing the user to readily adjust a touch weight at a place other than a factory. A key is swingably supported by a balance pin at a central portion thereof. An action has a wippen pivotally supported by a wippen flange, and is carried on the key at a location behind the balance pin through the wippen. The wippen is applied with moment about the wippen flange in a direction in which the wippen is lifted up by a weight or a spring. The magnitude of the moment is adjusted by an adjuster screw.

  • Patent number: 6281419
Abstract: A method of mounting a plate in a grand piano is provided for ensuring an appropriate bridge pressure in accordance with an actual amount of swelling of a soundboard and its distribution in a simple manner without requiring bridge pressure setting and re-adjustment. The method comprises the steps of measuring the heights of a bridge from a reference plane at a plurality of predetermined positions of the bridge on the back assembly; attaching a plurality of plate bases at a plurality of positions along the outer periphery of the top surface of the back assembly at heights corresponding to the measured heights of the bridge; and carrying the plate on the plurality of plate bases, and fixing the plate carried on the plate bases to the back assembly.
